The phrase "government of the people, by the people, for the people" emphasizes the importance of a government system that is representative of, accountable to, and works in the best interests of its citizens.
On November 19th. 1863, President Abraham Lincoln gave the Gettysburg Address during the Civil War where he stated:
"It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us—that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion—that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain—that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom—and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth."
Since 1863, however, we have come a long way from a government that is representative of, accountable to, and works in the best interests of its citizens. Our political system is rife with special interest groups, dark money, and politicians who want a Republic that is "of the government, by the government, for the government."
Many of our laws and policies have been neatly crafted by special interest groups who spend millions of dollars each election cycle to purchase politicians. In return for their donations, the corrupted politicians have to serve in the best interests of their donors - NOT their constituents.
This is why I am running a grassroots campaign to serve as your voice in the Florida House. I do not accept donations from special interest groups because my campaign cannot be bought.
Our Founders never intended for special interest groups, or factions, to have so much sway in our policy-making process. Unfortunately... self-interested politicians have corrupted the political system and our elections to work in their favor - not ours.
