2023 COMMUNITY IMPACT REPORT

FOREST STORE GRAND OPENING

We opened our new store location at 19325 Forest Road in Lynchburg on March 14th. The new Forest store features more than 12,000 square feet of shopping space along with a convenient, covered drop-off donation center.

We are excited the new location allows us to provide the Forest community with a larger, more convenient location for them to donate and shop. Sales from the store support our local employees in addition to the job seeker and job placement programs that help residents throughout Lynchburg and Bedford.

Located in between the former Forest Road and Forest Brook Road locations, the new store is easy to find for new and returning customers. This store consolidated the operations from the Forest Road and Forest Brook Road locations under one roof with expanded space for shopping and donations. The Timberlake and Wards Road locations continue normal operations.

More than a new location, the new Forest store also features new in-store signage with familiar faces: Lynchburg-area residents. We are a community-focused organization, and the new signage exemplifies our community focus by showing the faces of our store employees and shoppers.

PROGRESS UPDATE

We're excited to share the latest updates on Melrose Plaza. As we move forward in 2024, the project is making considerable progress in construction, and our former Goodwill Roanoke Jobs Campus is looking a lot different!

Each part of Melrose Plaza will open at a separate time to celebrate how each component will bring vibrancy to the Northwest Roanoke community and the greater Roanoke Valley.

• The Market on Melrose will open first in late 2024.

• The Bank of Botetourt branch will open in 2025.

• The Wellness Center will open in 2025.

• The goal is for The Excel Center® to open in the next two years.

Make sure to visit our website MelrosePlazaRoanoke.com and follow us on social media for more news and updates!

BRUCE PHIPPS RECEIVES HALL OF FAME AWARD

Bruce Phipps, our former CEO of Goodwill Industries of the Valleys, was awarded the prestigious Goodwill Industries International Hall of Fame Award for his outstanding contributions to the Goodwill enterprise. The award ceremony took place in early March as part of the Goodwill Industries International Annual Conference of Executives.

Bruce championed the Goodwill mission of helping people overcome barriers to employment and independence and advocated for the rights and dignity of people with disabilities and disadvantages. He inspired and mentored many staff, volunteers, and partners, and touched the lives of thousands of individuals and families.

The induction of Bruce Phipps into the Goodwill Industries International Hall of Fame is a testament to his exceptional contributions and enduring impact on the Goodwill movement. His legacy of service and leadership will continue to inspire future generations to uphold the values of compassion, integrity, and empowerment that define the Goodwill mission. He is a role model and a visionary for the Goodwill movement and a deserving recipient of the Goodwill Hall of Fame Award.
