GOODWILL'S 2022 COMMUNITY IMPACT REPORT

2022 Community Impact Report

We recently completed our 2022 Community Impact Report. Our report provides a glimpse into our progress in 2022 toward our five-year strategic plan goals. It highlights our achievements and contributions to our local communities, and our ongoing commitment to providing employment services, job training, and other essential support to individuals facing barriers to economic opportunity. Through programs and partnerships, we were able to help thousands of people achieve their career goals and build brighter futures for themselves and their families.

Our impact is only possible through the generosity of the communities we are honored to serve. Your donations, shopping, and partnership allowed us to help people achieve their fullest potential through the power of work and independence. With your continued support, we helped more individuals and families throughout our service area. Our achievements in 2022 allowed us to strengthen our commitment to the elimination of poverty and inspire all communities in our territory.

NEW FAIRLAWN MISSION SERVICES OFFICE

Fairlawn Open House

We recently relocated the Radford Mission Services office to Fairlawn. We hosted an open house at our new office, located at 6129 Warren Newcomb Drive in Fairlawn, on Tuesday, May 2nd for the community to learn more about the programs and services we offer to the New River Valley and see the new space.

The office is open Monday – Friday from 8 am – 4:30 pm and provides Mission Services programs including Discovery Services, GoodCare Healthcare Training, Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP), and Supported Employment Services.

“We are eager to offer individuals in the area more training and employment services as well as provide a more modern and functional facility for individuals in our Discovery Services program.” states Stephanie Hoer, Vice President of Mission Services. “We look forward to being an even larger part of the New River Valley community by helping more people achieve their fullest potential.”

The services provided in the new office location and throughout the area are the direct impact of the generous donors and thrifty shoppers in the community. Goodwill’s commitment to the New River Valley is strong and will continue to evolve to meet the community’s needs.

MELROSE PLAZA UPDATE

Melrose Plaza partners selected earlier this spring through Requests for Proposals include Banking Services, Marketing, and Architect & Engineering. The banking partner is the Bank of Botetourt which will open a new branch at Melrose Plaza. Wallace360 is the marketing and creative partner for Melrose Plaza. The Architect & Engineering firm selected to design and reimagine the current campus is Enteros Design.

The Wellness Center's partners are Carilion, Bradley Free Clinic, and New Horizons Healthcare. The Excel Center® planning passed a big milestone as a bill was passed in the Virginia State Legislature allowing Goodwill to work with the Department of Education. There may be additional partners announced later as the project develops. We are excited to work with all new and past partners to create Melrose Plaza.

We have been working with our partner MDI on specific features of the Market on Melrose. Features planned include a deli with hot food offerings, an eat-in area, full-service meat and seafood counter, self and full-service check-out options, local product vendors, online ordering, local pickup, and honoring and featuring the NW heritage and community members.

The Melrose Plaza Advisory Council (MPAC) was established. The council includes representatives from the surrounding communities, city officials, partner organizations like United Way and Feeding Southwest VA's Community Solutions Center, educators, pastors, and other community members. MPAC will continue to meet every other month throughout the Melrose Plaza project.

NEW CHARLOTTESVILLE DONATION CENTER

We opened a new donation center in the Pantops area of Charlottesville on Tuesday, May 30th. The Pantops Donation Center, located at 1311 Stony Point Road in Charlottesville, will serve as a standalone donation drop-off site with convenient drive-through service. The location will be open to receive donations Monday - Saturday 9 am - 7 pm and Sunday 12 pm - 6 pm.

We hosted a Ribbon Cutting with the Charlottesville Regional Chamber of Commerce at the donation center on Wednesday, May 31st.

The new location will allow Goodwill to collect donations more efficiently and provides an improved facility for our donation attendants. It also supports Goodwill’s strategic plan by strengthening our operations to meet the changing needs in the Charlottesville community as well as contributing to our team member centered organization.
