TUSD Hour of Code

This week, our Hewes Highlanders welcomed families and the community to their holiday bazaar. Guests enjoyed student-crafted goods along with performances by the choir. In addition, the Hillview Helpers lent a hand at Heideman, much to the delight of our Roadrunners. And, we checked in with one Hillview graduate inspired to continue impacting the classroom, now as a member of the Heideman team. Enjoy a review of another great week in TUSD!

Transfer Window

Join Us for a Campus Tour

Join us at an upcoming campus tour to see which TUSD school is right for you. In-person tours will be offered on Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. at Heritage, Legacy Magnet Academy, Sycamore Magnet Academy, Tustin Memorial Academy and Columbus Tustin. In-person tours will be offered at all other sites on Thursday, January 19, 2023 at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.

In addition, the Transfer Window Priority Period will soon open on January 9. Transfer requests received during the priority period are not on a first come, first served basis. Transfers are granted to qualified students based on space availability. If there are more qualified students than spaces, a lottery will be held.

Offering choice has always been a hallmark of Tustin Unified, as nearly one third of our students attend a school other than their home school. The online transfer process allows students the freedom of choice and movement throughout TUSD. To learn more about the transfer process and to complete an application, click on the transfers link on our district website. We have included videos on our elementary, middle and high schools, as well as our Kindergarten Readiness Program.

CubeSAT

CubeSAT Program Offers Out of this World Opportunity for Students

For the past seven years, TUSD has been a part of the groundbreaking CubeSAT STEM program, a joint effort with Irvine Unified School District and the Irvine Public Schools Foundation. This innovative program allowed students from TUSD and IUSD schools to not only apply their STEM skills, but to also build, program, test and launch their series of small satellites into orbit.

Participating students gained valuable industry-like experience as they worked on sub-teams in avionics, biotech, communications, power, prime and propulsion. Their hard work paid off. The CubeSAT program made history as the first high school program to successfully launch and orbit a satellite in space! This is a true testament to the power of inter-district collaboration, offering unparalleled access to real-world work experiences for students.

Thank you to Beckman teachers, both current and past, Dr. Paul Lewanski, Siu-Ling Sit and Siu-Kong Sit and administrators Drs. Grant Litfin and Donnie Rafter for their passion, support and dedication to the CubeSAT program over the past seven years.

SMA TTW

SMA Wolves Shine as They Venture Through the Woods

Earlier this month, Sycamore Magnet Academy students presented the campus' first elementary musical. 58 students shined in their presentation of Through the Woods, delivering stellar performance to a packed house. Sponsored by the Sycamore Magnet Academy PTA and funded in part through a Tustin Community Foundation grant, the musical was certainly a highlight for the SMA community. Way to go Wolves!
