Good Shepherd Carbon Neutral Initiative

Mission Green Project Update

The Good Shepherd Carbon Neutral Initiative will soon be completed!

The solar panels for the pergola were delivered last week, and the aluminum beams for the panel racking system will be delivered Thursday. The current plan (weather permitting) is to erect the pergola canopy and install the solar panels on Monday and Tuesday of next week.

Decorah Electric will complete all electrical hook-ups for the solar. Finally, LED lighting and outdoor loudspeakers will be installed.

Once all solar panels are installed, the goal will be to produce over 99% of the electricity needed for the facility. This is a paper projection for now. We're confident that we can achieve this goal. The entire project will be completed by August 15th.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: We are looking for volunteers to assist with the project next Monday and Tuesday (July 31 and August 1).

We need 1-2 individuals willing to work on scaffolding 6' off the ground and 4-6 individuals who will work on the ground. Moderate lifting is required.

On Monday, July 31, we will work from 10 am until 5 pm.

Tuesday, August 1st, will likely be a shorter day starting at 8 am.

If you are willing/able, please contact Jim Fritz, jlfritz@mac.com, 563-379-7363, or talk to him in church on Sunday.

Mission Green would like to express appreciation for the congregation's support in this significant undertaking!

We look forward to when monies once spent on energy costs can be re-directed to the church's mission goals. We also want you to know that we look forward to providing leadership to other entities wishing to follow our lead.

This project is a perfect opportunity to showcase the technology available to achieve Carbon Neutrality and Net Zero emissions. It is game-changing, and we're glad Good Shepherd is at the forefront of this mission!
