We need your input!

Horizons Stewardship is helping us with a feasibility study for our second capital campaign. This is the last week to share your thoughts. Please use this link for the online survey or complete a paper copy available in the Narthex (sanctuary entry). The paper copies must be returned to church by Friday noon. The online survey will be available until Sunday, the 16th.

Hospitality and Welcome

Last Sunday, we had 17 visitors and ran short on bulletins. How exciting! Thank you, all, for sharing the welcoming grace of God! We seek to reflect the love of Jesus and inspiration of the Spirit’s wisdom.

This is God’s house. Everyone is welcome!

Wonderful Concert

Thank you to Nichol DelGiorno for a wonderful concert last Sunday. If you were unable to make it to the concert here is a link so you may listen to it.

Juneteenth

Juneteenth celebrations begin this week. It is exciting that we have been asked to host a kickoff event with barbers and hairdressers providing braids and cuts so everyone is looking their best.

We will set up the Commons for this project on Wednesday. Our Wednesday worship will be in the Sanctuary.

Renovation Update

Last week was a VERY exciting week, piers were poured!

This is a tremendous milestone in our Rooted and Reaching Renovation. Thanks be!

Items needed for Food Pantry

In addition to the family bags distributed to local families in need, mini-bags are distributed to individuals experiencing homelessness. The content of the mini-bags is quite different from those that are distributed to family households. The items we need for these bags are often not available at discounted prices from the central illinois food bank, and the pantry is trying to minimize purchasing the items from grocery stores.

Some of the specific barriers that increase costs include:-the items must be portable, single servings, as nutritious as possible, require little preparation, easily opened (ie: ring top lids)

We are reaching out to ask supporters of the food pantry to consider donating food items that would meet the needs of this fragile population.

If you are interested in assisting with the mini-bags, click here for further information.

GA Welcome

Visitor Registration

We encourage visitors to scan the QR code in the bulletin and fill out the visitor form so that we may get to know you better.

Hospital Notices

Please note that the hospitals no longer contact local churches to let them know when a member is admitted. We encourage members and friends of First Presbyterian to call the church office to let us know when you go to the hospital so Pastor Susan and Chaplain Tim can provide pastoral support if it blesses you. We do not share any information without permission.

Shelter Meal Volunteers

Jesus says: "For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited me in."

~Matthew 25:35

If it blesses you to help feed our neighbors, please join us on May 28th. You can assist with the preparation of the meals, serving, visiting or all of the above. If you are interested or have questions, please see Keith Dhom, or Frank Schultz,.

Vision to Commemorate the Springfield Race Riot of 1908

The U.S. Department of the Interior invites you to participate in a community meeting on Monday, June 10 from 6-7:30 pm at Union Baptist Church, 1405 E Monroe St., Springfield, IL. The meeting will be an opportunity for the Biden-Harris administration to hear directly about the community's vision to commemorate the Springfield Race Riot of 1908 and the role it played in the nation’s history, including the formation of the NAACP. The National Park Service recently completed a special resource study regarding the site’s eligibility for inclusion in the National Park System. There is also bipartisan legislation introduced in the U.S. Congress to designate the site as a national monument.

Please let us know if you can attend and direct any questions about the community meeting to the Interior Department Office of Intergovernmental and External Affairs (OIEA) at oiea@ios.doi.gov.

Thank you to everyone that shares in the Joy of Generosity at First Presbyterian! There are several ways to support our ministries and many ministries to support. In order to ensure your gift is credited to the correct fund, please take a moment to include the following information when making a donation:

  1. Writing a check – Add the fund name in the memo section (Capital Campaign, Peacemaking, Samaritan Ministry, etc.)
  2. Online portal – Select “Other Donations” when entering the amount then enter the name of the fund in the Notes section
  3. Text giving – Text “$10 CC” to 217-284-2546, this example is a $10 donation for the Capitol Campaign fund. Other commonly used text codes are: Pledge, SM (Samaritan Ministries), Donate (Non-pledge), Peace, Joy, OGHS, Pentecost and BB (Brown Bag)
