Gómez Ministry Report - August 2024

Dear Ricardo and Beth,

Ricardo and I returned to work on August 9, after a three-month sabbatical. We are rested and encouraged to see what God has been doing in the Latin American Area during our absence. While we were gone 1,065 houses of peace were meeting and discipling new believers throughout the area. We also celebrate that approximately 3,000 people in 15 countries participated in Area-wide Freedom Week activities (Freedom Sunday raises awareness about and initiatives to combat human trafficking.) Our ministry is not about numbers. What they numbers show are the faithfulness of God and people who are following Him. They indicate that there is a great team of people participating with God in the restoration of Latin America.

Ricardo and team began a sabbatical policy for missionaries and upper-level leaders about two years ago. We offer a 3-month sabbatical after 7 years of ministry and we were the 6th couple to benefit from it. We used the time intentionally by meeting with counselors and an executive coach so that we can live and serve more faithfully and effectively. We spent valuable time with both kids as they are transitioning into adulthood. As a bonus we got to visit with members of both sides of our extended families and some of our friends. Most of the time was spent in Kentucky with a few short trips…one of which took us to beautiful western Canada (as seen in the pictures). I also began painting, you can see an example of my work below.

Thank you for supporting our ministry and allowing us this valuable time to evaluate the past and prepare for the future as we seek God’s will for ourselves and the ministry. We return knowing that our number one calling is to love and follow Jesus…no matter where He leads us or what the circumstances are! What a privilege He has given us to serve this team at this time!

(I was planning to say that we were rejuvenated by our sabbatical BUT the fact that I tripped and broke my pinky finger 6 weeks ago in what could perhaps be defined as a “senior moment” and the increasing grey hairs visible in our pictures prove that our youthfulness has not been restored. 😊 )

Please keep reading for prayer requests, August-September Calendar, and an exciting opportunity to doubly invest in this ministry. We are very grateful for each of you!

Blessings,

Ricardo and Beth

Prayer Requests

As leaders, we deal with situations and decisions that cannot always be made public. As we return to ministry, that is our reality. We humbly ask that you pray for grace, wisdom, and guidance for Ricardo. We ask you to pray for the Latin American missionary team and for all the leaders in the region as they deal with a variety of issues. Also pray for our brothers and sisters in Venezuela where the socio-political situation is worse than ever. Pray that we will all remember to live according to Psalm 16:8 AND “keep [our] eyes always on the Lord. With Him at [our] right hand, [we] will not be shaken!”

Personally, thank you for your past and continuing prayers for the kids. Jonathan’s wrist is fully healed. Both kids are starting classes this week…Juliana is continuing at the Community College and Jonathan is in orientation at the University of Kentucky. Both are working part-time and will be living together in Lexington (and with us when we are in town).

Upcoming Events

Because of the situation in Venezuela, Ricardo didn’t travel as quickly as expected after returning from Sabbatical. He will be traveling to Colombia August 27 – September 2 where he will preside over the Colombia-Panama Mission District meeting and ordain 9 people (including the pastoral couple who serves the local church we attend).

Assistant AD, Thad Roller will oversee the annual meeting in the Nicaragua-El Salvador where two more people will be ordained, Sept. 13-15.

Ricardo and I will be traveling to Europe September 16 – 25 for meetings with the other Area Directors and Bishops.

Support Report & Invitations

We are an extension of your ministry in Latin America and are very grateful for your partnership! Our leadership focus is large and in addition to the day-to-day ministry, it requires us to raise support for multiple country budgets, for international missionaries, and for Latin American personnel who support and lead the ministry teams. For this reason, we have not focused on raising our missionary support account (MSA) and now our MSA is critically low.

Today we invite you to go one extra mile with us, to make new or one-time donations, that will invest in our ministry and get the cash balance up to a healthier level. Today we are announcing a matching campaign that requires new money. Every new donation (or anything given above your committed support) will be doubled up to $10,000! Will you help us meet the $10,000 match? If so, indicate that your donation is for the Gomez Matching Campaign.
