United Way of West Central Connecticut VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) Program had a wonderful tax season. Our goal was to serve 420 VITA customers and we closed our season by serving 480 customers.
VITA is a free tax preparation program available throughout the state of Connecticut and is a team effort. Thank you to HRA of New Britain, The Village for Children and Families and United Way of Central and Northeastern CT, and United Way of Meriden and Wallingford for participating VITA sites.
Locally, we saw customers from our four communities - Bristol, Burlington, Plainville, and Plymouth - and others as far as Bridgeport, Simsbury, and Winsted.
The time and dedication of volunteers, during tax season, make this program possible. All volunteers are IRS trained and certified, informed of all the available tax deductions, and prepared to answer simple tax questions.
Thank you to our United Way of West Central Connecticut volunteers Rob Sanderford, Candance Anderson, Silvia Yanez Solis, Russell Wagoner, and Andy Asensio for volunteering their time this tax season.
| |
You can sign up NOW to learn about becoming a VITA volunteer for next tax season. Please contact Nancy Micloskey at 860 582-9559 X402 or nmicloskey@uwwestcentralct.org for more information.
All volunteers receive free training in tax preparation and being a greeter. High school age and older are welcome to sign-up. Flexible volunteer scheduling is available.

Volunteers make wonderful things happen. During Volunteer Appreciation Month, Bristol Early Childhood Alliance (BECA) hosted a breakfast for their Appetite for Reading program volunteers.
Over 10 years ago, BECA identified several “high need” neighborhoods in the Bristol community where children could not easily access books. To make access to books, easier for families with young children, BECA provided free “gently used” books for children throughout Bristol.
These locations, known as “Appetite for Reading” sites popped up in Bristol dentist offices, restaurants, and lending shelves, such as the Little Free Library located on 51 High Street, Bristol. Appetite for Reading volunteers help to sort, label, and distribute donated books.
For more information on BECA and ways to get involved, contact Donna Koser, Early Childhood Coordinator, at dkoser@uwwestcentralct.org.
