The Clear Creek Flag Status is at Yellow

The current Clear Creek status is yellow. As we head into the Fourth of July holiday week, please exercise extreme caution if you choose to use the creek. Clear Creek still presents many risks to the public due to water temperature, blasted rock, undercut rocks, potential strainers, and other safety considerations.

Yellow Flag (Moderate to High Flow) – means the Creek is considered unsafe for children under 18. Clear Creek is open to all uses. Please exercise heightened caution while in the creek; PFDs/lifejackets are strongly recommended at any water level.

Please keep in mind that there is no smoking or drinking allowed along Clear Creek. Additionally, all our furry friends must be on a leash.

2024 Clear Creek Corridor Clean-up

We are gearing up for yet another busy summer season here in the City of Golden, and after such an overwhelmingly positive response to last year's creek corridor trash cleanups, we will again be coordinating Monday morning pickups through the summer. Volunteers will be dispersed along the creek corridor and this year we will also be expanding out to cover nearby streets to pick up trash along flat surfaces of the trails and sidewalks and in parks and parking areas.

We will meet each Monday morning on the creekside patio of the Golden Natural History Museum located at 923 10th Street, Golden, CO 80401. Volunteers should check-in at the table on the patio to sign in, receive their parking permit (see below for more info), and receive any necessary gear and instructions for the activity. Volunteers can check-in anytime beginning at 7:00 a.m. and volunteers may help for as long as their schedule allows, but we finish by 9:00 a.m.

Golden Police Patrol Vehicles Get a New Look

The Golden Police Department is excited to announce the arrival of its new patrol vehicle design! The changes to the department’s vehicle fleet will not be immediate. The newly designed cars will be put into operation as older vehicles are retired. The new vehicles will now be all black and feature the existing Golden Police Department’s decaling, enhancing the department’s imagery and presence in the community.

Not only will the new design look sleeker and professional, but it will also reduce the overall setup cost by almost $400. In addition to the updated look, the vehicles will have a new interior layout to accommodate changes in technology.

The units will not have a traditional overhead light system, but they will have a new emergency lighting setup that provides 360-degree visibility. The setup will also remove the need to drill installation holes in vehicles, which will help with resale values as vehicles transition out of service.

The department has also rebranded the “Code Enforcement Animal Management” vehicles to reflect the newly created “Community Services Unit.” The units will encompass animal management, code enforcement, creek enforcement, traffic monitoring, and other non-criminal services. The unit will also manage the photo radar program. The vehicle changes are meant to reassure our community that we are responsibly investing in innovative trends and always looking to enhance functionality that furthers the organization’s response in servicing the community.

Understanding Road Closures in Golden

With significant building projects underway in Golden this summer (such as the Clayworks building on Washington Street and CSM Resident Hall on 19th Street), we recognize the strain on our roadways and the resulting traffic impacts. We are working in partnership with builders to ensure the least disruptive road closures.

The City is committed to regulating access to the Right of Way for construction projects consistent with municipal code, whether for utilities or materials transport while prioritizing public and worker safety and minimizing impacts on city infrastructure.

In collaboration with builders, we strive to minimize disruptions by:

  • Keeping at least one lane open on major city arteries whenever possible.

  • Scheduling night work in areas that cause minimal neighborhood disturbance and are safe for workers.

  • Limiting weekend work to accommodate increased visitor, cyclist, and pedestrian traffic.

  • Reviewing applications to avoid overlapping work in close proximity, on more than one major arterial street at the same time, and at special events.

  • Requiring contractors to ensure bike and pedestrian mobility is always maintained, and working to minimize trash service disruptions.
