City of Golden's Compressed Workweek Pilot Continues
Effective May 1, 2024, the City of Golden is continuing to roll out a Compressed Workweek Pilot to additional City departments as was planned, if the data continued to show positive trends for productivity and services levels.
On July 10, 2023, the City of Golden launched a Compressed Workweek Pilot at the Golden Police Department (GPD) in which all GPD employees moved from a 40-hour workweek to a 32-hour workweek. The 6-month pilot concluded on December 31, 2023, and was extended for an additional six months to July 1, as data showed positive trends for productivity and services levels across the Department. The City announced at that time that it would look to expand the pilot to other departments using similar evaluation methods and metrics.
The City’s top priority in the pilot is to continue the delivery of quality, efficient, and effective services throughout the community, maintaining or improving our level of performance. Departments participating in the pilot have baseline data that will be validated and tracked before and during pilot activities to evaluate productivity and service delivery. In addition, participating departments are tasked with tracking data and instituting tools for time management, meeting efficiency, and process improvement through classes, training, and evaluations. City officials will continue to gather more data, adjust and adapt the pilot in real-time, and evaluate different conditions and policies that may impact employees or departments differently.
No decisions regarding the long-term application of a compressed workweek by the City are expected until 2025 at the earliest. The next community meeting will be held on August 6 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the City of Golden Council Chambers at which time updates and data from Golden Police Department and other participating departments will be shared.
