A Message from our Founder & Presidents

As we step into the month of May, it's a moment to reflect and appreciate the spirit of our community at Adopt a Golden Atlanta.

Since 2003, our mission to rescue Golden Retrievers and their mixes has not only grown but thrived thanks to your unwavering support and love.

This May, we celebrate not just the beauty of spring but also the heartwarming contributions of all mothers – mothers of children, mothers of fur babies, and every figure who provides nurturing care. In line with our tradition, our Mother's Day virtual raffle is underway, promising exciting prizes while supporting our beloved Goldens.

Our monthly events, like the upcoming Meet and Match at Pet Lodge Pet Resort, offer a perfect chance to engage with our mission and possibly find a new furry family member. These gatherings are crucial in our ongoing efforts and serve as a testament to your dedicated involvement.

This month also features our unique Pup-arazzi opportunity, where your beloved pets can shine in professional portraits, with proceeds aiding our rescue endeavors. It’s an exciting way to capture the bonds we share with our pets while supporting our cause.

In recognition of your contributions, whether through fostering, donating, or simply spreading the word, you are the backbone of AGA. Your dedication allows us to tackle challenges and embrace opportunities to better the lives of these wonderful dogs.

Thank you for your continued support and commitment. Together, we are making a difference one Golden at a time.

With heartfelt thanks,

Lauren and Patti

P.S. Don’t forget to check our AGA store for some golden goodies and remember, every little bit contributes to a great cause!

Orphan of the Month:

I just came from a breeding farm where the owner decided to retire and was trying to find homes for the leftover dogs. A rescue group told AGA that I needed help and here I am. It is so exciting to be on my way to finding a new home after 8 years.

I am getting lots of love here and people say I am a sweet boy. I love all people, other dogs, walks on my leash and when you meet me, I will offer my paw to show you how polite and kind I am. Thank you for reading about me.

I know because the AGA angels are everywhere and they won’t let me down.

Check Your Dog

Once a Month on the 14th!

It is important that you start your fight against canine cancer and any other health issue from the day you bring your dog home.

Facts about Cancer in Dogs

Did you know that 1 in 3 dogs will be diagnosed with cancer? 50% of those dogs will die from cancer. In humans, there are 1.5 million new cases of cancer each year, but in dogs, there are 6 million new cases of cancer diagnosed each year. Dog cancer prevention is key to a long healthy life with your dog.

Checking your dog once a month for lumps and bumps or any abnormal behavior is key in the prevention of any health issue with your dog.

We recommend doing it on the 14th of every month. Monthly checks mean extra pets and love for your dogs while bringing peace of mind to you! If you are starting with a young dog, this time will also prepare them for their future vet wellness visits.

Now how exactly do you do this?

Start at their nose and work all the way to their tail. Make sure you are in a familiar, low-key environment where you and your pet can do this without distraction. In other words, not during dinner time or when you expect the mailman to be buzzing by the house.
