God's WORD for TODAY

August 7, 2024

Psalm 49:16–19 (NKJV)

16 Do not be afraid when one becomes rich, When the glory of his house is increased; 17 For when he dies he shall carry nothing away; His glory shall not descend after him. 18 Though while he lives he blesses himself (For men will praise you when you do well for yourself), 19 He shall go to the generation of his fathers; They shall never see light.

God’s Word for today is a message to all those who spend their lives seeking wealth. Those who will do whatever it takes to gain financial success. It doesn’t matter who they hurt along the way, they live by the motto the means justifies the end.

It is true that money can be a powerful tool for good, but in the hands of those consumed by greed, it can be dangerous. They take advantage of the less fortunate and refuse to help those in need. This may be the reason the psalmist encouraged his audience that they should not fear them because death levels life’s field.

No matter how much money a person may acquire over their lifetime, none of it can be used after death. They can never have enough to pay death off; it is a debt we all must pay. Nor can their money buy them a seat in the Kingdom of God. In fact, the love they have for money will cast them into a sea of darkness, and they will never have enough to pay for the light to be turned on.
