Going Green Can Save You Some Gold

cauldron_of_gold.jpg

March is commonly known for the fun holiday where as a child we playfully pinched other kids who foolishly forgot to wear green and day dreamed of double rainbows, mischievous leprechauns and lavish pots of gold. As adults, we drink pints of Irish beer, consume large amounts of corned beef and cabbage and dream of finding a lucky four leaf clover!

What would you wish for if you found that mystical clover?

Many would wish for pots of gold and buckets of riches! What if I told you that there were pockets of riches to be found hidden all over your house right this second? Would you go running, looking high and low for it? I bet you would! Even better...... I am going to tell you where to find it! CHA-CHING $$$$$$!

Here are six green tips that will help you start saving some gold right now!

  1. Use a power strip with an on off button. When we leave our electronic devices plugged in all the time, they are secretly sucking the money right out of our pockets! When you are not using those devices, simply flip the power strip off!
  2. Haven't upgraded to a new low flow toilet yet? Put a brick in your toilet tank. This will save you money with every flush. The tank will not fill with so much water and reduce your water use.
  3. Go digital with all of your bills. Unless you have a reason for needing a paper bill, your can request to go digital with all of your bills. Some companies even offer incentives to go digital. $$$ back in your pocket and less paper in your recycling.
  4. Keep your refrigerator coils clean. You might think this will be a huge pain in the little leprechaun butt, in fact, it is pretty easy. By keeping the coils clean, the motor won't have to work as hard or come on as often. Again saving you money.
  5. Wash your clothes in cold water. With modern day detergents, even eco friendly detergents, it is not necessary to wash in hot water and washing in cold water saves up to 90% electricity! Cha Ching!!
  6. While we are talking laundry, we might as well talk drying. Using dryer balls instead of dryer sheets helps dry clothes faster which saves $ but are also reusable and eco friendly as they contain zero chemicals and when they reach the end of their life, most can be recycled.

According to Irish folklore Leprechauns wore green and if anyone else wore green they would be invisible to the Leprechauns. Leprechauns are said to to be tricksters who like to pinch. By wearing green clothing, a person is sure to avoid a painful pinch!
