Teen Social VIBES TeenVibes

All teens between 12-18 years of are reproductive health education or have unanswered questions are invited to attend the Teen Social VIBES Clinic. Health Care Providers will be available to provide exams and confidential counseling. Teen Social VIBES is held Wednesday, February 7th & 21st @ 3pm-6pm. Pick up transportation provided to attend and free bus pass for return home transportation. No appointment is needed, refreshments will be provided, prizes and gifts with participation, and community services hours will be provided

Free Transportation for Glades Seniors to Norton Museum's Black History Family Day NORTON

The Norton Museum of Art is hosting Black History Family Day, highlighting art by African American artists, telling their stories, inspiring visitors to make art, and featuring music and theater by African American performers. A focus exhibition of paintings and drawings by Jean-Michel Basquiat, who introduced graffiti to the art world in the 1980s, will also highlight this special event.

Free transportation is being provided for the senior population from the Tri-City area (60 and above) Bus transportation will leave at 10:30 am from 341 SE 2nd Street, Belle Glade, (parking lot across the street from the Bank of Belle Glade). Interested Seniors that will utilize the transportation should secure their seats by calling Jacqueline Radcliffe at 561-985-0428 to be added to the list. Departure from Norton will be at 5 p.m.

CANCELLED -- Diabetes: Don't Sugar Coat It, a Diabetes Education Fair

The previously published event has been cancelled: Lakeside Medical Center, the Diabetes Coalition of Palm Beach County, and Glades PATCH present: Diabetes: Don't Sugar Coat It, a free diabetes education health fair. TPS Termination Haiti and El Salvador

Reminder: The Federal government has released the official notices for termination of TPS for Haiti and El Salvador. Both have a FINAL 18-month extension, which runs for 60 days from January 18, 2018 through March 19, 2018. Current TPS recipients who do not re-register within the 60 days may be subject to removal.

Informational Material Regarding Florida Medicaid Threat

From FL Voices for Health: "Over halfway done with the current legislative session, a serious threat to Florida Medicaid has emerged. The Florida Senate introduced a proposal to reduce Medicaid retroactive eligibility from 90 to 30 days. If a person is uninsured and has an accident or falls seriously ill, there's a chance, in Florida, to enroll for Medicaid after the fact. If you qualify for Medicaid, the program will pay your medical bills going back three months ... Advocacy on this issue will be critical over the next few weeks. Please share the call to action with your networks and stay tuned as more is shared over the next few days ..."

The Women's Foundation of Florida awards micro-grants to support local Palm Beach County projects that empower women/girls and create social change. Grants range from $1,000 to $2,500. Projects may include advocacy, education, leadership development, life skills development, mentoring, skills development, trainings, and more, but should not focus on delivery of direct service. Competitive grant applications will focus on projects empowering women and girls to challenge the status quo, build their leadership, and lead positive change in Palm Beach County.

Wellington, FL -- The Glades Initiative received $75,000 for its participation in the Ninth Annual Great Charity Challenge (GCC) presented by Fidelity Investments. The event took place February 3, 2018 at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center (PBIEC).  Riding strong, The Glades Initiative's team, sponsored by the Bellissimo family, finished near the top of the leaderboards to secure a hefty reward. 
The Glades Initiative CEO Karis Engle cheered her team on. The team's 5th place finish secured $75,000 for the nonprofit, ensuring that clients of The Glades Initiative continue to have help with access to vital services such as food and healthcare. With this funding, the organization will continue its mission of bridging the gap in the health and human service system of care in the Glades.

"Thank you to the Bellissimo family, our team sponsor, Everglades Stables, our corporate sponsor, Anne Caroline Valtin (Executive Director of the GCC), who makes all the magic happen, along with all the wonderful sponsors of such a great event each year.
