Leadership Letter: A Message from Our Executive Director

It is hard to believe we are over halfway through the year already, but we’ve been busy here at EPH!

With your support, we have been able to provide housing and case management for 41 families - including 101 children – through our transitional and long-term supportive housing programs so far this year.

We have also helped 30 families – including 96 children – at risk of losing their housing in the community avoid experiencing homelessness through our eviction prevention program.

Here are a few additional highlights from the year so far:

  • We congratulated FOUR young men living in EPH homes who graduated from high school this year. We look forward to watching them continue to succeed as they move forward.

  • We welcomed THREE new partnership churches: Oakbrook Church, First United Church of Christ, and St. John’s Lutheran Church of Little Suamico.

  • We celebrated TWO young adults who successfully completed their first year of college.

  • We spent a day working on the build site of the future home for ONE family currently in our long-term supportive housing program and witnessed the mom's excitement at getting closer to purchasing her own house through Habitat for Humanity.

Your support has made a significant impact on the lives of families facing homelessness in our community. Thank you for sharing your time, talent, and treasure with EPH and providing those we serve with the resources needed to reach self-sufficiency.

I wish you all an amazing summer filled with joy, relaxation, and memorable moments with loved ones.

With gratitude,

Crystal DeCleene

Welcome to the Team

We are pleased to introduce our newest Case Manager, Shamika Murrell. Shamika joined our team in March and has worked with families experiencing homelessness for over 14 years. Read more from her below.

Hello everyone! My name is Shamika and I am the mother of three wonderful young men. I'm originally from Milwaukee and moved to Green Bay almost 30 years ago.

Working with families experiencing homelessness makes me think of the people who helped me when my children and I were in the same situation. They showed us love, compassion, and that I wasn't alone. Living in a shelter with my children changed me. I always loved helping people, even when I was a young girl, and the team that helped me through the toughest time of my life inspired me to want to give back to them. I began volunteering at the shelter after I moved on, but it still felt like that wasn't enough and I wanted to do more, so when a position became available, I applied and got the job.

Prior to joining the EPH team, I worked at Freedom House Ministries for 14 years in various roles, including house supervisor, lead house supervisor, intake coordinator, and case manager. I loved working there, and helping families was the best part of my job. Being able to help families start over after experiencing something so traumatic is the best part of being a case manager.

Since starting at EPH, I've found that the best part of my role is still helping families, but also the team. There is so much compassion here and the way we work together to help families become self-sufficient again makes me happy and grateful to be part of this team.
