Civic Engagement at BCNC
On March 16, BCNC participants attended the State Senate Candidates Forum to hear candidates' positioning on language access, affordable housing, education and jobs. For many of our Adult Education students, this was the first time they had any involvement with their civic leaders. John Wang, a BCNC youth, represented Asian American youth at the forum, and asked the candidates about their views on the Charter School Cap and its implications for Boston Public School students. BCNC encourages our participants to engage in the political process and we admire their courage to speak on behalf of the community!

Youth Participate in Community Mural
BCNC youth recently participated in an event where Boston Chinatown residents and supporters collectively painted a mural to express community members' concerns about gentrification, evictions, and displacement of longtime residents and local businesses. The mural is displayed at the East Meets West Gallery at 934 Massachusetts Avenue in Cambridge.

Engaging Chinese Speaking Participants Through WeChat
Family Services created a WeChat account to more effectively engage participants. This Chinese social media platform allows subscribers to receive notifications about upcoming workshops and events. For example, information on our new parenting program offered in Quincy was shared via WeChat. The program was immediately filled due to this new communication method! Scan the code to subscribe, and please help us spread the word.

BCNC Portraits: Ellen Tang
Ellen Tang grew up in an immigrant family in Quincy. She started volunteering with the Youth Center in 2011 when she served as a mock interviewer on Career Day. Shortly after, Ellen became a College Access Program mentor and supported first generation youth navigate the college application process. Ellen is an active member of the Bamboo Circle, BCNC's young professional network, and served as the Chair in 2015. We are so thankful for Ellen's invaluable commitment to serving our youth!
