Dear friends,

If I were a rapper, I'd call myself something like Young Gouda, and I'd also start this email by saying, "You already know what it is!"

In case you didn't know—I'm not a rapper. And, should you not know 'what it is' let me explain:

  • This has been the best Oakville Cab "Smart Buy" for 16 vintages straight

  • 2017 and 2018 were the only sub-$200 retail Napa Cabs to score 94/95 in Spectator

  • From the owners of the organic Rock Cairn Vineyard (still used by Nickel & Nickel)

  • Made at Rob Lawson's custom crush facility. Rob has overseen the production of many top wine labels, including Pahlmeyer, Bryant Family, Colgin, Blankiet, Staglin, Marcassin, Turley and Showket.

The past three vintages all instantly sold out upon offer, so we haven't had this gem on our shelves in years. We don't expect to have this year on it, either.

This private offer expires when our 36-bottle allocation sells through. The wine will arrive towards the end of May, next month.

Cheers!
—James

92 Points - Wine Spectator (2019 vintage)
"Tilts to exotic in profile, with mulberry and boysenberry compote notes liberally scored with singed anise, fruitcake and Christmas pudding notes. A tarry coating on the finish adds more oomph, while the overall polished feel makes this accessible now. For fans of the style. Drink now through 2034. 4,850 cases made."

95 Points - Wine Spectator (2018 vintage)
"Very lush, with warmed plum sauce, cassis and linzer flavors gliding through slowly, but persistently, while cast iron and mesquite notes add range along the way. Stays on the dark side of the spectrum, with a flash of espresso crema flickering at the end amid the exotic fruit. Drink now through 2034. 4,500 cases made." — JM (2021)

94 Points - Wine Spectator (2017 vintage)
"Features some frank, nearly heady ripeness, with steeped plum, açaí berry and blackberry compote flavors bursting forth, followed quickly by bramble and licorice snap notes. The finish delivers a late kick of fruit and pulls in a mouthwatering apple wood accent. For fans of the big, bold style. Best from 2021 through 2034." — J.M. (July 22, 2020)

Winery Notes:
The 2021 Ghost Block Estate Cabernet Sauvignon is composed of fruit sourced from our family-owned and organically farmed Rock Cairn vineyard. This property is characterized by deep, gravelly loam soil with a western exposure. The vines produce highly concentrated fruit late in the season and are typically the last picks of our harvest. Five blocks of Cabernet Sauvignon separated by age reside on this site, ranging from 5- to 35-year-old plantings. This provides an opportunity for capturing characteristics that are specific to vine age, creating a perfect blend to express this valuable site. In this particular vintage, we have incorporated fruit from two of our other estate vineyards in Yountville and Oakville to complement this complex wine.
