The 250th Scavenger Hunt that is!

A fun way to learn about your community this summer!


HPL offers a special scavenger hunt to introduce residents to the history and culture of Hartford. It includes notable attractions, events, and people throughout Hartford!

  1. Pick up a scavenger hunt card at any Library location
  2. Visit all 16 of the hunt locations: 9 historic sites and our 7 Library locations
  3. Return your entry card to any HPL branch when you finish. Entries must be submitted by August 17th!

Everyone with a completed entry will receive a thank-you gift and will be entered into a drawing for grand prizes of $100 and $50 gift cards!

HPL makes it easy to register to vote or change your voter address.

Construction Updates: HPL is growing!

Three major building projects are underway to enhance and expand our physical spaces. Enabling HPL to increase programs, collections, and services for our community!

Downtown Library: HPL’s Center for Contemporary Culture (CCC), Berkins on Main café, and Library classrooms are open to the public. Additional spaces on the Main Floor are expected to open this fall.


Albany Library: The project includes remediation and renovation of the former North West Jones School, which will become a part of the current Albany Library, linked by a newly constructed addition.


Barbour Library: HPL will be building a new, state-of-the-art, 15,000 sq. ft. Library down the road from the current Barbour location. Groundbreaking is expected in 2024.
