Fatherhood. That word evokes a lot of feelings — some good, some bad — for many people. But most of us can agree what being a father
should be. Watch Mike Jordan Laskey's experience of fatherhood, how it's impacted his life, and how our Blessed Mother is shaping his worldview.

You can still submit your intentions for our
Summer Novena of Hope, and they will be brought to the foot of Mary’s Altar in the Shrine, where she will intercede for you and your loved ones to her Son. The Vincentian priests and brothers will also be praying for you and your needs.

Fulfilling
Mary's Mission
during Quarantine
|
|
Our Blessed Mother, herself, showed St. Catherine Labouré the Miraculous Medal and then told her to give it to the entire world. As a Daughter of Charity, St. Catherine belonged to the Vincentian Family, so we, too, have been commissioned to spread devotion to Mary and her Miraculous Medal. How can we let the pandemic stop us from fulfilling our Blessed Mother's request? We can't.

Thank you, Liliane, for sharing your photo and love for Mary's Miraculous Medal. May she continue to intercede for you, your family, and your loved ones. Know that the Vincentian priests and brothers are praying for you, as well.

Contrary to popular belief, neither Father’s Day nor Mother’s Day were started by greeting card companies. The first known commemoration in the U.S. occurred in West Virginia, in remembrance of the 360 coal miners who died in the worst mining disaster in U.S. history. While President Lyndon Johnson officially proclaimed the third Sunday in June as Father’s Day, the date was not declared a national holiday until 1972.

In May's inSPIRE, we asked you about your ideal Mother's Day (given our unique circumstances this year). Fifty percent of you wanted to take a stroll outdoors, 38% wanted to have your spouse and/or children cook meals, another 38% wanted to order food, 25% of you wanted to sleep in, 25% wanted to watch a movie, and one person responded that she wanted to go "to Mass even if it means watching it on TV
.
"
We also asked how you'd be honoring our Blessed Mother on Mother's Day. Eighty nine percent of you said you would pray the Rosary, 45% said you'd pray the Litany of Loreto, another 45% said you'd wear your Miraculous Medal where everyone could see it, 33% were going to read Scripture, 33% were going to place cut flowers by a picture of Our Lady, and 33% were going to make a home Marian altar. Send us your altar photos via email to
mpeterson@cammonline.org
or share a comment with your photo on our Facebook page:

We pray you were able to do all these things for your own rejuvenation and to honor our Blessed Mother.
This month,
take our survey
about Father's Day. The results will appear in July's inSPIRE

There's only one apparition in which Mary didn’t say anything?
At Knock in Ireland, not a word was spoken, making this apparition exceptional. At that time in Ireland’s history, words weren’t needed. Comfort was. And that’s what all the witnesses experienced.
There's
only one apparition in which Mary left a miraculous image of herself?
Like the Miraculous Medal, the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe was given directly from heaven, and it was uniquely filled with symbols familiar to the Aztec people.
There's
only one apparition in which Mary asked for milk for her Son?
Vailankanni is the only known apparition where Mary requested milk for her Child. In thanksgiving, Mary brought God’s divine graces to that spot and to everyone who humbly prays there.

These apparitions show how Mary comes to us in ways we understand and need. And in expressing our love back to her, we also depict her in ways that are familiar to us. In that sense, we can say that there are
Many Faces of Mary
.
And that’s the theme of this year’s Summer Novena of Hope. As we come together, we will honor and explore the many apparitions of the Virgin Mother around the world, which have led millions of people to a greater hope and deeper faith.
It’s not too late to
submit your intentions
for this nine-week Novena. Your intentions will be brought to the Shrine and placed at Mary’s altar.
Join us in person or
online
, and if you’re able, include a donation in support of Mary’s mission. We’re planning to open the Shrine on Monday, June 15, but due to the uncertainty of the pandemic situation, check
our website
for updates.
And remember, no matter how she looks or what language she speaks in her encounters with us, Mary is always our Blessed Mother who intercedes for us—and desires nothing more than to bring Jesus to us and us to Jesus.
