Wayne County Holds First Ever Employee Appreciation Day

The Wayne County Board of Commissioners recently held the first ever Employee Appreciation Day. The event honored Wayne County employees who have dedicated their careers to public service. During the event, EMS Director Richard Johnson was honored for his retirement after 25 years, while Ben Surrency was honored for his retirement after 40 years with the county. Additionally, Wayne County Sherriff R.E. Mosely presented two lifesaving awards to Greg Tappenden and Phillip Sumroe for their work in the community during the event.

Georgia County Officials Meet with U.S. Department of Labor Officials Through NACo


County officials from across the state recently joined officials from the United States Department of Labor to learn about workforce initiatives. The meeting was made available through the National Association of Counties (NACo) Prenatal-to-Three County Leaders Academy in Maricopa County, Arizona. Columbus-Muscogee Councilwoman and ACCG Board Member Toyia Tucker and Telfair County Vice-Chair Dakkia Bradshaw were in attendance.

Floyd County Presents Local Highschoolers with SRO Award and Scholarships


The Floyd County Police Department recently hosted a ceremony to present high school students with the School Resource Officer Award and Scholarship. Every year, the county's school resource officers conduct fundraising events to provide scholarships for graduating seniors. The chosen seniors are individuals who set an example for others by conducting themselves with great character qualities and being of service to others.

Fayette County Fire Department Works with Locals to Promote Fire Safety


The Fayette County Fire Department recently partnered with the American Red Cross and Smoke Alarm Blitz to ensure proper fire safety devices are in local Fayette County homes. The Fire Department installed 29 smoke alarms in 18 homes. During the event, firefighters also educated residents on a proper fire escape plan should a fire take place.

Lumpkin County Announces Opening of Pinetree Recreation and Water Park


The Lumpkin County Board of Commissioners recently announced the grand opening of the new Pinetree Recreation Center. This new facility features an outdoor water park with a lazy river, play structures, and water slides. Additionally, the indoor facility features a double gymnasium plus six outdoor pickle ball courts.

Gilmer County Holds Ribbon Cutting for New Swimming Pool

Gilmer County held a ribbon cutting this week for its new swimming pool. The new project was primarily funded through SPLOST dollars and provides Gilmer County residents with a state-of-the-art pool, waterslides, and diving board.
