Lowndes County 911 Holds Inaugural Badge Ceremony

Lowndes County recently held its first-ever badge ceremony for 911 communication officers. As mandated by Georgia law, all communications officers must complete Georgia Public Safety Training Center (GPSTC) Basic Communications Officer Training Course. The Communications Officer badge honors the achievement of this milestone and celebrates the officers commitment to their profession, agency and community.

Clayton County Youth Commission Receives Top Honor from Secretary of State


The Clayton County Youth Commission was awarded State in the Secretary of State's Student Ambassador Program. Since 2016, the Student Ambassador Program has encouraged students to get involved in Georgia civics, promote voter registration among their peers, and volunteer in their communities.

Baldwin County Receives CHIP Grant


Baldwin County received a $500,000 Community Home Investment Program (CHIP) grant from the Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA). The grant funds will be used to rehabilitate six homes on the south side of the county. CHIP is a federally - funded program that grants funds to provide safe and affordable housing in Georgia.

Habersham County Opens Greenhouse for Seniors


The Habersham County Senior Center partnered with the North Georgia Technical College Horticulture Program to build a greenhouse for senior residents to grow vegetables, herbs and other plants. Habersham County officials worked with the seniors to get the greenhouse started. Since January, the senior center has grown and harvested lettuce twice, and recently added new plants.

Newton County Commissioner Gains Insights Through NACo CORE Network

The National Association of Counties (NACo) County Officials Advancing Racial Equity (CORE) Justice Network allows for 15 county elected officials from across the country to learn with and from one another during virtual quarterly calls and four in-person peer exchanges. As part of the network, Newton County Commissioner Alana Sanders had the recent opportunity to tour the Harris County Women's Center in Texas. During the visit, she connected with fellow county peers where they exchanged ideas, observed best practices, and discussed strategies to enhance the support system for women in their respective districts.

Gordon County Recognizes National Correctional Officers Week


During a recent Gordon County Board of Commissioners meeting, a proclamation was presented to the Gordon County Sheriff's Office in recognition of National Correctional Officers Week. Established in 1984 by former President Ronald Reagan, National Correctional Officers Week is observed during the first week of May to honor the dedicated service of correctional officers.

Ware County Welcomes State Legislators to Local Airport

Ware County recently participated in the Legislative Flights 2024, sponsored by the Georgia Airports Association. Legislative Flights allow legislators the opportunity to visit nine local airports while learning about airport data, the economic impact of airports, and financial county needs. The Waycross-Ware County Airport was one of nine airports that participated, serving as the third stop on the legislators' flight path.

ACCG Governmental Affairs Team Presents 2024 Legislative Service Awards

ACCG Deputy Director of Governmental Affairs Todd Edwards presented a Legislative Service Award to Rep. John LaHood (right) during a Lowndes County Commission meeting.

The ACCG Governmental Affairs team has begun presenting the 2024 Legislative Service Awards. The Legislative Service Awards honor state legislators who work with the Association on behalf of Georgia counties during the legislative session.
