Glynn County Student Creates Golden Isles Government Immersion Day

to Showcase Local Government Careers

Glynn County's Golden Isles Government Immersion Day was imagined, developed and implemented by Lily Roberts, a student at Glynn Academy. The program was created to allow students to shadow both city and county officials for a day to experience firsthand what a career is like in local government. Nine students participated in the event, shadowing different staff members including Glynn County's communications director, assistant county manager, chief financial officer, and more.

Habersham and Cherokee Counties Recognized at Georgia

Emergency Communications Conference


Habersham and Cherokee counties were recognized during the recent Georgia Emergency Communications Conference. Habersham County E-911 Director Lynn Smith Received the Communications Director of the Year Award while Habersham County Radio Systems Administrator Tom Priddy was awarded the Leadership in Service Award. Cherokee County was honored during the conference by receiving the Call Center of the Year Award.

Bulloch County Officials Meet with D.C.

Leaders for Habitat on the Hill


Bulloch County Commissioner Ray Mosley traveled to Washington D.C. alongside Habitat for Humanity of Bulloch County to participate in "Habitat on the Hill." Habitat on the Hill provides an opportunity for Habitat affiliates to share experiences, stories, successes, and tactics to enhance the effectiveness of housing advocacy efforts throughout the U.S.

Union County Sheriff's Office Educates Local Seniors on Latest Scam Strategies


The Union County Sheriffs Office visited local seniors to educate them on common scams that target the elderly. The presentation featured tips on how to avoid phone call scams, text scams, purchase scams and long-distance romance scams. The county felt the presentation was needed as scams involving retirement savings have recently increased in the state.

Columbia County EMA Recognized for Completing Georgia Professional Emergency Management Certification


Columbia County EMA Deputy Director Suzie Hughes and EMA Planning Coordinator Corbin Cooney were recently recognized for completing the Georgia Professional Emergency Management Certification from the Georgia Emergency Management Agency/Homeland Security (GEMA/HS). The Georgia Professional Certification for Emergency Managers is the highest level of Emergency Manager Certification achievable in the state of Georgia.
