Walker County Unveils New Mural

Walker County recently held a ribbon cutting for its new mural painted by Jonathan Bidwell. The mural highlights landmarks in the county, including the "Summerville Steam Special", which takes visitors from the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum to various locations in Walker County. After scouting several sites, the county's tourism committee chose the back of the Food City building as the ideal location for painting the mural. The mural was funded by revenue collected from the county's hotel/motel tax.

Cherokee County Celebrates Airport Expansion

Cherokee County held a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the renovated Cherokee County Regional Airport. The $8 million project included widening the runway from 75 feet to 100 feet, as well as upgrades to the taxiway and lights. The renovations were funded through a combination of sources, including $6.2 million from the Federal Aviation Administration, $1.6 million from the Georgia Department of Transportation Aviation Fund, and Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax dollars.
