Austin, Braun
Named ACC Players
of the Week

Duo played big roles in
Georgia Tech football's 30-20 win at No. 18 Virginia Tech
Junior DB Lawrence Austin

J unior defensive back Lawrence Austin and freshman offensive lineman Parker Braun were recognized for their efforts in Georgia Tech's 30-20 win over No. 18 Virginia Tech by being named the ACC Defensive Back and Offensive Lineman of the Week, respectively, the ACC announced on Monday.
Austin,  Georgia Tech's starting nickel back, earned the honor on the strength of being directly responsible for three of the Yellow Jackets' four takeaways in the triumph at Virginia Tech. He intercepted VT quarterback Jerod Evans twice (matching the number of interceptions that Evans had thrown all season entering the contest) and forced a fumble that was recovered by his twin brother, GT cornerback Lance Austin. Two of the three takeaways that Lawrence had a hand in led to Georgia Tech touchdowns.
Austin became the first Yellow Jacket with two interceptions in a game since Oct. 29, 2011, when Jemea Thomas accomplished the feat at Clemson. He led a defensive effort that saw the Jackets limit the 18th-ranked Hokies to 14.9 points below their season average going in to the game. 182 of VT's 437 yards and 13 of its 20 points came on its final two possessions, after Georgia Tech had jumped out to a 30-7 lead.
Braun, one of three true freshmen to start on Georgia Tech's offensive line on Saturday, led the Yellow Jackets with 10 knockdowns in the victory. Behind the Braun-led line, Georgia Tech rushed for 309 yards and surrendered only one sack against a Virginia Tech defense that was allowing 125.8 rushing yards per game and averaging nearly two sacks per contest going into Saturday's matchup.
Braun is the first Georgia Tech freshman to ever be named ACC Offensive Lineman of the Week. The honors are the first of both Austin's and Braun's careers.

Previewing Virginia
Opening Statement:
"I was pleased with the effort of our team last Saturday. We had a lot of people hurt and out, especially offensively. They kids responded and stepped up and played. I was proud of them.
"Defensively, we got some big plays, some turnovers and sacks that contributed to a pretty big upset win for us there in Blacksburg, which is a tough place to play."

On if the home team has an advantage in the Virginia series
" "I guess they do. We have lost to them maybe three times since I have been here, once at home and twice up there. In the past, the two teams have just played close games, which is the nature of our league.""

On not overlooking Virginia:
"They are a lot better than their record. They have had a real issue with turning the ball over but if you watch the tape, you will see they have been in every game. Even the game with Miami (last Saturday), it was 17-14 late in the first half. Every game has been like that. We have to get ready to play our best game. I try to caution our guys not to worry about the other team, but to focus on us. We have yet to play our best game on offense, defense and special teams all together, so that is the goal. We have talked about how we can get to .500 in the conference. Prior to last year, I do not think we have had a losing record in the league. That is certainly important to me and I hope it is to them. Positioning yourself for whatever bowl game you play and trying to get as many wins as you can. You have to get seven before you can get eight. There is a lot for us to play for. It is Senior Day and I am sure UVA is going to come in here and play their best game.""

On Georgia Tech's seniors:
"We do not have many seniors on our team. You develop relationships with those guys and get close with them. They have won a lot of big games here. They were a part of the team that finished seventh in the country and won the Orange Bowl. They have been in a couple ACC Championship games. Anytime you get to the end of it, it gets kind of emotional for a coach out there on the field. When they come out with their parents for the ceremony, you realize it is the last time. From the time you started recruiting them until now, you have spent what is for the most part five years with them. It is kind of bittersweet, it is neat to see them move on and hopefully be successful outside of football for most of them."

Virginia Head Coach Bronco Mendenhall's Press Conference Previewing
Georgia Tech
Opening Statement
" We get to come back home to a tough matchup with Georgia Tech, Coach (Paul) Johnson and his triple-option attack. He will really put pressure on you in all ways. It forces you to be efficient offensively with limited opportunities. Defensively you need to get good tacklers and have your eyes in the right spot and defend four downs. It will be a great team challenge and our kids will be looking forward to it. "

You talked about the inconsistency from your team in total volume of plays. With a team like Georgia Tech, the volume of plays could go either way. Does that lend itself to a different offensive game plan?
" Yes, it does. There is a delicate balance in there between trying to generate enough points and keep Georgia Tech from having the number of possessions, or if we're able to play good enough defense, getting them off the field. That script is you have an ideal going in, but, each time we've played Georgia Tech or Air Force or others, it morphs as it goes. You are never sure until you get into the situation.
"Preferably we would love to get ahead. This is versus any option team. We would love for them to have to play from behind and to not have the ball very long. They would want just the opposite, to be ahead and have the ball as long as they can, which means converted third-and-shorts. That's pretty standard. "

Should we assume that DeVante Cross will be running that offense in practice
this week?
" That's our hope and our plan is to have that athleticism and experience at that position to help us get ready. It won't simulate it perfectly, but he did a really, really nice job helping us get ready for Louisville to the point where we could assess what the schematics might look like against Louisville's personnel. So that would be similar here.
You never can simulate the look identically or exactly, but that part will be pretty close."

With Donte Wilkins, (Micah) Kiser, (Zach) Bradshaw, (Kelvin) Rainey, Quin (Blanding), you have veterans and experience in the middle of your defense. On the outside you've got (Matt) Terrell, (Chris) Peace, (Jordan) Mack, (Eli) Hanback, Steven Wright, guys who have not played Tech. What is the challenge with the young guys to teach them but not overload them this week?
"It's just that. I think the question is fair. Really, when it comes to experience, the way I think it would be fair to say Micah and Zach and Quin and Kelvin. But that's been basically the case all year, other than when Zach is hurt, Landan Word is in there. So if Zach is healthy, those four have had a seasoning experience of playing Georgia Tech, and there's no way to simulate it. So what that leads to or lends itself to is lack of consistency, volatility and possibility of big plays.
"So the key then is to put a plan in place that's simple enough and effective enough that we can execute it based on our current personnel against a scheme like that. But that's been our challenge the whole time. I welcome the challenge, but this is just the next offense to do that against which is unique and different."

ESPN's ACC Week 11 Power Rankings: Chaos Doesn't
Shake Up The Top
Both Clemson and Virginia Tech had an opportunity to clinch spots in the ACC championship game, but both lost in Week 11. How did those losses shake up the power rankings? Not as much as you'd think.
.

#1 Clemson Tigers (9-1, 6-1)
LW - Lost to Pitt 43-42
The Tigers weren't a unanimous choice for the top spot after their 22-game home winning streak was broken on a last-second 43-42 loss to Pittsburgh. But considering they have the head-to-head victory over Louisville, they stay here for now. And if they win out, they are more than likely playoff-bound again.

2. Louisville Cardinals (9-1, 7-1) LW, Beat Wake Forest 44-12
After trailing 12-0, Louisville scored 44 unanswered points to beat Wake Forest. Brandon Radcliff ran for a career-high three rushing touchdowns, and Lamar Jackson only had one to keep the Cardinals' playoff hopes alive.

3. FSU Seminoles  (7-3,42-3)
LW: Beat Boston College 45-7
The Seminoles had no problem taking care of Boston College on Friday night, winning 45-7. Deondre Francois was knocked out of the game with a bruised shoulder, so his status is one to keep an eye on as the week progresses.

4. VA Tech Hokies (7-3, 5-2)
LW: Lost to Georgia Tech 30-20
The Hokies couldn't take advantage of an opportunity to clinch the Coastal Division, losing to Georgia Tech 30-20. They still are in the driver's seat -- all they have to do is beat Virginia in the regular-season finale to take their spot in Orlando.

5. North Carolina Tar Heels
(7-3, 5-2)
LW: Lost to Duke 28-27
Despite going into their rivalry game against Duke as a double-digit favorite, the Tar Heels lost 28-27 and missed a chance to retake command of the Coastal Division. Mitch Trubisky threw two interceptions, including one with an opportunity to drive for the winning score.

Georgia Tech Golf Signs Three
2017 Prospects
Three highly-regarded junior golfers from the class of 2017 - Will Dickson of Providence, R.I., Noah Norton of Chico, Calif., and Ben Smith of Novi, Mich. - have signed national letters-of-intent to play at Georgia Tech.
All three prospects are ranked No. 2 among all junior golfers in their respective states and among the top 160 junior players from all classes nationally, according to the Junior Golf Scoreboard. Dickson, ranked No. 72 in his class, and Smith, ranked 99th, both qualified for this year's United States Amateur Championship. Dickson and Norton, No. 7 in his class, both qualified for the U.S. Junior Amateur.
" As we all know, there's never been a coach who doesn't like his recruits," said head coach Bruce Heppler. "Certainly, we don't want to put pressure on guys 10 months before they arrive, but I think this is one of the best groups we've ever signed. They're all from out of state, but they all saw the value in our program, our facilities and our academics, and, most importantly, they believe this is where they can achieve their goals."
Heppler's squad, which has won six of the last nine Atlantic Coast Conference championships and has reached NCAA Championship match play three of the last six years, will graduate two seniors in May.
Dickson is ranked 114th overall, 72nd in the class of 2017, and No. 2 in the state of Rhode Island.
"Will was able to play in a lot of the bigger junior and amateur events early because of his physical development," said coach Heppler.
Norton is ranked 11th overall, 7th in the class of 2017, and No. 2 in the state of California.
"[Former assistant coach Brennan] Webb first saw Noah at the 2015 Western Junior," said coach Heppler. "He thought he looked like a Georgia Tech guy. Based on that thought, we flew out to San Diego to watch him play at the Junior Worlds. I was impressed with his optimism, his enthusiasm and his energy level."
Smith is ranked 158th overall, 99th in the class of 2017, and No. 2 in the state of Michigan.
"Ben was paired with Will Dickson in his first AJGA event," said coach Heppler. "Ben got the better of Will that day and won the tournament. A couple of days later, Will's Dad called and said we should do some research on Ben, because he seemed like a Georgia Tech type of person."

Swimming and Diving Set To Host The GT Invitational Nov. 17-19

The Georgia Tech swimming and diving program is set to host its annual GT Invitational event this week on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Nov. 17-19, at the McAuley Aquatic Center. The prelims will begin each day at 10 a.m., while the finals are slated to start at 5:30 p.m. each night.
"We are excited to be hosting a number of the top teams in the nation this week at our invitational," said head coach Courtney Shealy Hart. "We expect to compete and race hard all three days as we look to help with our seeding in this year's ACC Championships this spring, as well as set some more NCAA qualifying times. This is always a great meet for our team as we compete against some of the best competition in the nation and push ourselves each race in front of our home crowd."
The invitational field will include a number of highly touted programs in No. 10 Auburn (women), No. 18 Florida (women) and Alabama (women) who are receiving votes in the CSCAA TYR Top-25 poll. Also participating in the three-day invite will be No. 8 Alabama (men) and No. 9 Florida (men), who join No. 19 Georgia Tech (men) as the three top-25 nationally ranked teams on the men's side of competition.
Tech is coming off of dual meet losses to the nationally ranked Georgia Bulldogs back on Nov. 2 in which the Yellow Jackets recorded 23 career best times, 15 team season best marks and a total of nine NCAA 'B' qualifying times and diving scores.
The women's team is led by Iris Wang, Kaitlin Kitchens, Chiara Ruiu, Laura Branton and Emily Ilgenfritz.
Leading the way for the Yellow Jackets on the men's side is the trio of Rodrigo Quadros Correia, Moises Loschi and Ben Southern.
Matt Casillas and Nolan Mallet will compete for the Jackets' men's team while on the women's side Carly Doi and Madison Young will continue to look to score points for the team in all three diving events.
The GT Invitational will also be shown live via the ACC Network Extra.

Georgia Tech Game Notes; Virginia Game Notes

* Fresh off of its biggest win of the season, Georgia Tech wraps up the home portion of its 2016 schedule versus longtime ACC rival Virginia.
* In addition to being its first win over a nationally ranked opponent in four tries this season, last Saturday's 30-20 victory at No. 18/22 Virginia Tech also made Georgia Tech bowl-eligible for the 19th time in the last 20 seasons.
* Saturday's convincing win over the 18th-ranked Hokies came despite the Yellow Jackets missing five starters on offense -- Sr. QB Justin Thomas, Sr. C Freddie Burden, Jr. RT Andrew Marshall, Jr. AB J.J. Green and Fr. BB Dedrick Mills.
* Two Jackets were named ACC Players of the Week for their performances at Virginia Tech. Jr. NB Lawrence Austin was named ACC Defensive Back of the Week after directly contributing to three of Georgia Tech's four takeaways with two interceptions and a forced fumble. Fr. LG Parker Braun became the first freshman in Georgia Tech history to be named ACC Offensive Lineman of the Week after 10 knockdowns, paving the way for Tech's 309 rushing yards in the win at VT.
* Georgia Tech and Virginia are squaring off on the gridiron for the 39th time. The Yellow Jackets hold a slim 19-18-1 advantage in the all-time series between the two programs, which dates back to 1965.
* Saturday is Tech's Senior Day, honoring 16 student-athletes playing their final home game at Bobby Dodd Stadium prior to the contest. The student-athletes being recognized include 13 seniors -- LB Chase Alford, BB Marcus Allen, OL Freddie Burden, PK Harrison Butker, LB P.J. Davis, DL Patrick Gamble, DL Francis Kallon, AB Austin McClellan, OL Michael Muns, P Ryan Rodwell, DL Rod Rook-Chungong, QB Justin Thomas and AB Isiah Willis -- and three fourth-year juniors who are graduating and have elected to forego their final season of eligibility -- OL Niko Anderson, BB Ryan Braswell and OL Eason Fromayan.

Scouting The Cavaliers
* ILB Micah Kiser has recorded 231 tackles in his 22 career starts, giving the junior 10.5 tackles per game over his 22 starts.  Kiser's 231 tackles since the start of the 2015 are the second-most in the nation and the most among "Power 5" players. Kiser has 246 career tackles in 34 games.
* P Nicholas Conte is No. 1 in the ACC and No. 11 in the nation with a 44.8 punting average. Of Conte's 29 punts inside the 20, 13 punts are inside the 10, six of those punts are inside the five and five of those punts have been downed at the one-yard line. Conte's 29 punts inside the 20 leads the nation.
* QB Kurt Benkert's 20 touchdowns place him in a tie at No. 4 for all-time for passing touchdowns in a season at UVA.
* TB Taquan Mizzell has a chance to become the 19th Cavalier to reach 2,000 career rushing yards. He enters the Tech game needing 169 more rushing yards to reach that plateau. He is averaging 84.5 rushing yards per game over his last two and 74 rushing yards per game over his last five. Mizzell's 696 rushing yards in 2016 are the most in any season during his four-year UVA career.
* FS Quin Blanding needs five tackles to pass former UVA great Anthony Poindexter (342) for most stops by a Cavalier defensive back. Poindexter currently sits No. 11 all-time at UVA in career tackles.

Inside The Chart: Griffin's Resolve Shows
On And Off The Field
By Georgia Tech Play-By-Play Announcer, Andy Demetra
A safety recording a career high in tackles can be something of a catch-22. On one hand, it's a commendable achievement. On the other hand, if a safety records that many tackles, it often means the defense had an undesirable day.
Corey Griffin found himself in the middle of that dilemma when the strong safety from Tyrone, Ga., logged 12 stops in Georgia Tech's 48-20 loss to No. 18 North  Carolina. But at his weekly radio show Monday, head coach  Paul Johnson  didn't  hesitate to heap praise on his redshirt junior.
"I grabbed Corey after practice [Monday] and just told him I appreciate how hard he's playing. He's making a ton of tackles over here and trying to get everybody lined up and trying to do the right thing," said Johnson.
"If there's one guy over there that's maybe played even better than I expected this year, it's Corey."
As he wraps up his first season as a starter, Griffin's resilience and steadiness has stood out to Johnson and his teammates. His 72 tackles currently lead the team.
"I'm not selfish. Whether it's tackling or whether it's breaking up a pass or making interceptions -- anything I can do to help my team win," Griffin said.
That resilience has manifested itself in less obvious ways, too. Griffin had every reason to feel snake-bitten after the Clemson game on Sept. 22, when he inadvertently knocked the ball out of cornerback Lance Austin's hands following an interception in the end zone. The Yellow Jackets fell on it but the Tigers recorded a safety. Or two weeks later, when he dove to cut off a pass against Pitt tight end Scott Orndoff late in the fourth quarter and the Yellow Jackets leading 34-27. The ball tipped off his hands and landed neatly into Orndoff's, who raced 74 yards for the game-tying score.

Georgia Tech-Georgia Kickoff Set for Noon
Men's basketball home contest versus Tulane to tip off at 7:30 p.m.

Kickoff time has been set for the Georgia Bulldogs' annual showdown with in-state rivals the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, a.k.a "Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate."
Georgia (6-4, 4-4 SEC) will face Georgia Tech (6-4, 3-4 ACC) at noon ET on Saturday Nov. 26 in Athens, Ga. The game will be broadcast by the SEC Network.
Both teams are out of title contention in their respective conferences but have qualified for bowl games, so there is little other than bragging rights at stake in this game.
The Yellow Jackets are bowl-eligible for the 19th time in the last 20 seasons with a 6-4 overall record going into Saturday's home finale versus Virginia.
A win for Georgia would be first-year head coach Kirby Smart's second over a rival after beating Auburn on Saturday, and it would help the Bulldogs finish the regular season strong after struggling mightily in October.
UGA has struggled in noon kickoffs this season. They lost in blowout fashion to  Ole Miss in September and lost a close one to Vanderbilt 17-16 on homecoming. The Commodores are the one common opponent with Tech dominating 38-7 on September 17.
The Bulldogs also struggled at noon kickoff with FCS opponent Nicholls but came out with a two-point win. They face Louisiana-Lafayette at noon this weekend.

Georgia leads the 111 year old series with Georgia Tech, 65-40-5. The Bulldogs won 13-7 last year in Atlanta.
Georgia Tech also announced on Monday that the Yellow Jackets' men's basketball contest versus Tulane on Nov. 26 will tip off at 7:30 p.m. at McCamish Pavilion. The Yellow Jackets' men's basketball squad stands at 1-0 going into Monday night's home contest versus Southern (7:30 p.m. - ACC Network Extra).
Georgia Tech football and men's basketball tickets can be purchased online at togetherweswarm.com.
Former Yellow Jackets in the NFL
Georgia Tech football's Waller and Thomas highlight Week 10 in the NFL for the #ProJackets
Week 10 of the 2016-17 NFL regular season saw the offense take center stage for the #ProJackets, highlighted by tight end Darren Waller (DE, GT 2005-08) and wideout Demaryius Thomas  (WR, GT 2007-09).
Waller hauled in his first NFL career touchdown catch to help lead the Ravens past the Cleveland Browns, 28-7. Waller finished the game with two catches for 14 yards.  Thomas grabbed a season-high eight catches in the Broncos' 25-23 win over the New Orleans Saints. He totaled 87 yards on the day and posted a spectacular touchdown catch.

Volleyball Falls At No. 8 UNC In Five.
Jackets Host Louisville, Notre Dame This Weekend
~ from ramblinwreck.com ~

The Georgia Tech volleyball team (21-7, 12-4 ACC) had No. 8 North Carolina (23-3, 15-1) on the ropes with a 2-0 lead in the  match, but the Tar Heels rallied back to win the match 3-2 on Saturday night at Carmichael Arena.
The Yellow Jackets recovered from a 13-7 deficit to tie the game 19-19 in set one. North Carolina regained the lead 22-21, but Georgia Tech rattled off the next four points to win the game 25-22.
" It's a very good team on the other side," head coach Michelle Collier said. "We came out very confident in what we were doing. We were able to serve them really well and were able to score a lot with our offense. They [UNC] came out in set three and made some adjustments. They were able to get momentum and they are a very good team. It was a good match for us I just wish we would have played them a little harder toward the end."
 - Teegan Van Gunst led the Jackets with 14 kills to go along with 15 digs for her 16th double-double, and served four aces.
 - Gabriela Stavnetchei tallied 13 kills and Annika Van Gunst added 12 kills.
Up Next:  The Jackets host their final two home matches of the season this weekend. Tech hosts Louisville (2-0, 0-0) Friday at 7 p.m., followed up by a 1 p.m. matchup against Notre Dame (1-0, 0-0) on Sunday for the Jackets' Senior Night.

Jackson, Lammers Lead Tech Past Southern:
Host Ohio On Friday

Tadric Jackson scored 11 consecutive points in the first half and finished with a career-high 20 points on Monday as Georgia Tech beat Southern 77-62.
Ben Lammers added 13 points, 15 rebounds and blocked a career-best nine shots for Georgia Tech (2-0), which had a school record 16 blocks.
On Friday, Lammers registered career highs of 15 points and five blocked shots while grabbing eight rebounds in the Jackets 70-55 season-opening win over Tennessee Tech.
''I told him in the locker room that 'if I could
Junior Guard
Tadric Jackson
give you a big kiss on the cheek right now I would, but you're too sweaty,''' Georgia Tech coach Josh Pastner said. ''It was as good as I've seen since I've been coaching.''
Jackson, who missed the season opener with a hamstring injury, came off the bench to help Tech expanded an 18-16 lead to 29-21. Corey Heyward added a 3-pointer and a free throw to push the margin to 12. Tech played closer to the pace that Pastner is seeking since leaving Memphis.
Trelun Banks scored 19 points for Southern (0-2), who upset Georgia Tech 93-78 in the only meeting between the programs in the 1993 NCAA Tournament. Shawn Prudhomme added 15.
''The coaches did a great job scouting,'' Lammers said. ''One of the reasons I was able to get that many blocks was I knew exactly what every player was going to do.''
''He's very strong and physical,'' Southern coach Roman Banks said of Lammers. ''I told the guys that he's a guy who comes to work every day. He packs his lunch, and he brings his helmet. Don't look for anything fancy from him; he just beats you up for 40 minutes.''
Up next, the Yellow Jackets will stick around for the third of five home games to start the season when they play Ohio on Friday. The Bobcats (2-0) are coming off a 96-75 victory over Sam Houston State. The opening tip is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET. at McCamish Pavilion. The contest will be televised on ACC Network Extra.

Yellow Jackets Roll Past Kennesaw State, 86-49;
Host Georgia on Sunday

Junior Forward
Elo Edeferioka
Fueled by five players scoring in double-figures, the Georgia Tech women's basketball team dominated Kennesaw State on the road Wednesday night, coming away with an 86-49 victory. Tech remained undefeated with the win, improving to 3-0 on the young season.
"I was really impressed with the defensive play of Chanin Scott," commented head coach MaChelle Joseph. "I thought she gave us a huge lift in the second half with her deflections and I thought she really picked us up getting rebounds and run-outs. I was also really impressed with our post play. I thought Zaire O'Neil and Elo Edeferioka were able to score inside and use their size to their advantage. I'm really proud of the fact that we had 16 assists and we shot a much better percentage from the free throw line tonight, so that was good to see."
After the teams remained tied at 19-19 at the end of the first quarter, Tech came out of the break with a 10-0 run to take a 29-19 lead in the second quarter and held the advantage the remainder of the contest. The Owls cut the score to six points with just over three minutes left in the first half, but Cha'Ron Sweeney would put the Yellow Jackets back up by nine hitting a triple with 1:18 to play. Tech carried a 38-31 lead into intermission on a 57.1 percent shooting effort and O'Neil leading offensively with 10 points.
The Italian duo of Francesca Pan and Antonia Peresson opened the third quarter scoring five straight as the Jackets took a 43-31 lead with just over a minute into the quarter. Tech extended its spurt to 7-0 to take a 15-point advantage and would never relinquish a double-digit lead, pushing its advantage out to 20 points on a free throw from Edeferioka at 1:56. Scott and Edeferioka combined to score Tech's final 11 points of the quarter as GT led 63-42 heading into the final frame.
Tech surpassed 80 points for the first time this season on a Scott layup with 4:45 to play in the game. The Yellow Jackets held its largest lead of the contest at 37 points with 4:07 left in the fourth quarter.

Eubanks Moves On to JSM Challenger Quarterfinals
~ from ramblinwreck.com ~

Georgia Tech men's tennis junior Christopher Eubanks moved on to the quarterfinals of the JSM Challenger in Champaign, Ill. with a 6-1, 3-6, 6-1 rout of Sekou Bangoura (USA).
Eubanks came out to a strong start, never trailing in the set as he topped the ATP's No. 229-ranked singles player 6-1 in the first set. In the second set, Bangoura utilized four aces to take the second set 3-6 and force a third. Eubanks maintained his composure and bounced back from the second set loss to claim the match with a 6-1 victory in the third set.
Eubanks advanced to the quarterfinals of the challenger with the win. He will play No. 204 Michael Mmoh (USA) in the next round.
Meanwhile, Eubanks has been selected to represent the United States in the annual Master'U BNP Paribas International Collegiate Team Competition, Dec. 1-4 in Marcq-en-Baroeul, France as announced by the USTA Tuesday afternoon. He is among six collegians from the USA chosen by the USTA to represent the country.
"To be selected for the Masters'U is an incredible accomplishment," said Eubanks. "This is something I've wanted to do since entering college, and to finally be selected as one of the top American collegiate players and be able to represent the USA is a huge honor, and I'm excited for the opportunity."

Men's Tennis Welcomes 2017 Class
Georgia Tech men's tennis head coach Kenny Thorne welcomed the two-man class of 2017 to the Flats on Wednesday. Carlos Divar and Frederick "Zummy" Bauer inked national letters of intent to join the Yellow Jackets for the 2017-18 season.
Carlos Divar comes to The Flats from Vitoria, Spain, and will arrive on campus as an early enrollee in January. Divar currently ranks No. 1506 in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) rankings, and he achieved a career-high ranking of No. 107 in the ITF Junior rankings.
"Carlos is one of the premier players coming out of Spain this year, said Coach Thorne. "What I love is that he took time away from his busy tennis schedule to study diligently for the SAT, and he did a great job. Carlos puts his mind to something, and he gets it accomplished. This is a character trait of all successful Georgia Tech student-athletes. He will definitely add strength to our team this coming January."
Zummy Bauer comes the Flats from Suwanee, Ga. and will enroll in fall of 2017. Bauer ranks No. 108 in the tennisrecruiting.net rankings. In June of 2016, the Suwanee native won the International Grass Court Championships ITF singles title in Haverford, Penn.
"We are excited to be signing another local Georgia player of Zummy's caliber," said Thorne. "He has been very successful in junior tennis in Georgia and understands the benefits of a Georgia Tech degree as well as the high level of our tennis program. He won an ITF singles title earlier this year and plays a good aggressive game style. He is a hard worker and will fit in great with our team."

Our Stories: Alexa Anton-Ohlmeyer
"Our Stories" is a RamblinWreck.com feature that provides first-person stories from current Georgia Tech student-athletes on their journey through academics, competition and life once their athletic careers are over. These young men and women represent the ideals of what it means to be a STUDENT-athlete at Georgia Tech. These are their stories.
My name is Alexa Anton-Ohlmeyer. I am the senior captain of the Georgia Tech tennis team, but my story stretches much further than a serve or a volley.
I was born in Rancho Mirage, California, to Tom and Wendy. My parents divorced when I was 3, and my mother remarried to Drew Ohlmeyer. When I was in third grade, I noticed that every one of my classmates had the same last name as their mother, and I wanted to be the same. I went home and asked my mother if I could legally change my last name, and she was impressed I had thought to do that all by myself. We stuck a hyphen on my last name, and I've been the only Alexa Anton-Ohlmeyer I know ever since.
It was one of many times I tackled a challenge earlier than most would.
My name is long, but my nicknames are short. My friends call me Lex and my younger siblings call me Biggy. I'm an older sister to them, but throughout their lives I've been so much more.
My younger sister, Skyler, is 12, and my younger brother, Jett, is 10. They are two of the greatest inspirations in my life. Each day, I make sure to return the favor to be an inspiration to them. Jett was born with a rare motility disorder that causes his muscles and nerves to not function correctly. He is hooked up to intravenous 12 hours each night. The doctors told him he would never be able to eat normally and he could forget about playing sports.
  He had other plans.

Cross Country Finishes 7th and 13th at
2016 NCAA South Regionals
The Georgia Tech men's and women's cross country teams marked five career bests in their 7th and 13th-place finishes at the 2016 NCAA South Regional on Friday morning. Both teams topped their performances at the event last season.
"We were pleased with both teams," said head coach Alan Drosky. "The men came in ranked eleventh in the region and came out seventh, the women weren't ranked in the top fifteen and finished thirteenth."
The women raced first in the 6k at Apalachee Regional Park, home course of Florida State. The Yellow Jackets bested their 17th-place finished from the 2015 season, topping Atlantic Coast Conference foe Miami and finishing 13th out of 30 teams. Sophomore Amy Ruiz crossed the line first for the Yellow Jackets as No. 59 out of the 212 finishers and a time of 21:36.9. She was followed by Mary Prouty who finished 65th with a time of 21:44.7. Hailey Gollnick and Haley Stumvoll finished fourth and fifth for Tech, racing career-best times of 21:50.1 and 22:22.1 respectively. Rounding out the top seven was Mary Claire Solomon (22:28.4), Melissa Fairey (22:28.8) and Hayley Keadey (22:48.2).
"The women are making good progress and competing hard," Drosky commented. "Amy [Ruiz] has had an outstanding season as a redshirt freshman and Mary [Prouty] has been a consistently strong second."
The men placed 7th in the 10k topping last year's 8th-place finish and besting Miami. The Yellow Jackets were led once again by junior Nahom Solomon who raced a career-best time of 31:35.4 for a 31st-place finish followed by Frank Pittman just half of a second later. Alex Grady finished third for the Jackets, crossing the line 34th with a career-best time of 31:40.4. Matt Munns raced a career-best of 31:45.7. Mitchell Sanders (31:52.9), Tanner Shaw (32:12.1) and Christian Bowles (32:49.4) finished out the top seven for the Yellow Jackets.
"The men ran a great team race with our top five finishing within seventeen seconds, that's outstanding," said Drosky. "Nahom [Solomon] has been a great leader throughout the season and Frank [Pittman] ran like a seasoned veteran in his first 10,000m ever."

Tech Baseball Signs Another Top-25 Class

GT baseball head coach Danny Hall announced Tuesday the signing of 13 student-athletes - 12 from the state of Georgia - to National Letters of Intent to continue both their academic and athletic careers at Georgia Tech beginning in the fall of 2017.
The 2017 recruiting class is ranked No. 22 nationally by Perfect Game.
"I really like this class. We've had two really good classes here in a row and this will be our third. We'll sweat the draft a little bit on a few guys, which we do every year. We've added pitching depth, added infield depth, we've got outfielders and a catcher so I think that this is a multi-faceted group. The fact that many of these young men are two-sport athletes gives us a chance to play guys at different positions, which can really add to the depth of the team and that it increases their chances at getting playing time right away as a freshman," stated Coach Hall. "All told, it is a really, really good and competitive class. We're extremely excited. The fact that we've put three really good classes in a row together gives us a chance to compete at a high level not only in our league, but nationally."
Those signed are: SS/RHP Oscar Serratos, C/3B, Kale Ledford, SS/RHP Crews Taylor, RHP/INF Jake Brace, OF Baron Radcliff, C/INF/RHP Cameron Turley, SS/2B Luke Waddell, SS/2B Michael Guldberg, SS/RHP Devonte Brown, 1B/LHP/OF Joseph Mannelly, OF/RHP Colin Hall, LHP/1B Brant Hurter, and RHP/C Hugh Chapman.

Softball Adds Eight Players for 2017-18

Georgia Tech softball signed eight high school athletes to join the Yellow Jackets in 2017-18 in a class that ranks No. 43 in the nation by FloSoftball, head coach Shelly Hoerner announced Thursday. The recruiting class stretches from coast to coast with four recruits from Georgia, three from California and one from North Carolina.
The recruiting class includes Samantha Bates (Charlotte, N.C.), Naomi Dickerson (Whittier, Calif.), Bianca Mora (Cumming, Ga.), Saige Pye (Stockton, Calif.), Breanna Roper (Woodstock, Ga.), Cameron Stanford (Alpharetta, Ga.), Jaydra von Behren (Dunwoody, Ga.) and Skye Webb (Temecula, Calif.).
"I am extremely excited to welcome the 2017 class," Hoerner said. "Every signee is athletic, passionate and humble. They are proven winners on and off the field and will make an impact on Georgia Tech softball when they step foot on campus. Their willingness to be true team players shows what kind of character they have. This class continues to play the top competition and trains diligently on its own to be better than they were the day before. I look forward to watching them grow over the next four years here at Tech."
