TOWNSHIP NEWS: SEPT 2023

As schedules begin to fill up with the return to school routines, ball games, and last trips to the cottage, I hope that you are able to enjoy the last few moments of Summer. We have enjoyed so many wonderful events this Summer--from the Farmers Market to Music in the Park to the annual Slip 'N Slide--and it is always wonderful to see all of the people and events that bring our community together. On behalf of the Township Board and Staff, thank you for being a part of this community. We are here to serve this community and we encourage you to contact the Township Office with any questions or concerns (we appreciate positive feedback too!) that you may have.

Township Superintendent

Jenison Historical Association

The community is invited to a presentation about the Jenison Interurban on Wednesday, September 13 at 7PM at the Georgetown Township Public Library. The Interurban was an "electric" railroad that ran from Grand Rapids to Holland.

Visit the Jenison Museum (28 Port Sheldon), open monthly from 10AM-12PM on Tuesdays (Sept. 5, Oct. 4, and Nov. 7) and 2-4PM on Saturdays (Sept. 16 and Oct. 21)

If you need help finding information about your ancestors, the Georgetown Township Library Local History Room is the place to go! Mary and Ronnie, two volunteers from the Jenison Historical Association, can help you with your family history. The Library also offers FREE access to Ancestry.com.

The Local History Room is located on the lower level of the Georgetown Library. The Room is open from 11AM-1PM on Wednesdays or by appointment.

BACK TO SCHOOL SAFETY

Some reminders from the Georgetown Fire Department:

-Adhere to School Zone Speed Limits

Slower speeds give drivers more time to react to unexpected situations

-Stop for School Buses

When a school bus is stopped with its flashing red lights on and its stop arm extended, all traffic, regardless of direction, must come to a complete stop.

-Watch for Pedestrian Activity

Motorists should be prepared to yield the right-of-way to pedestrians at crosswalks and intersections.
