On July 1, Georgetown University launched two new schools — the School of Nursing, which reflects a renewed commitment to the largest health care profession, and the School of Health, which focuses on Georgetown’s interdisciplinary strengths in health, health care and policy.

Roberta Waite, EdD, PMHCNS, RN, MSN, ANEF, FAAN, brings decades of experience working to advance health equity to her new role as dean of the reconceptualized School of Nursing. “Knowing must go hand in hand with doing,” Waite said. “Identifying health problems will not by itself promote health equity. We must build students’ advocacy skills and shift from merely problem identification to solution-creation.”

Christopher J. King, PhD, MHSc, FACHE, associate professor and former chair of the department of health systems administration was named the inaugural dean of the School of Health in May. “The factors that shape the health of individuals and populations are both complex and intersectional,” King said. “It will take unconventional practices and policies to undo a history of harms and truly foster a society where all people can achieve their full health potential.”

This summer, 13 rising junior and senior nursing students put cura personalis into practice by carrying on a Georgetown tradition of helping pilgrims seeking a healing experience at the Sanctuary Our Lady of Lourdes in France.

Georgetown Fully Funds MD/PhD Program
|
MD/PhD students admitted starting in next year's admission cycle (2022/23) and matriculating beginning in August 2023 four trainees will receive a full tuition scholarship + stipend for the entirety of their MD/PhD training. In addition to making our program more competitive with our peer institutions, these structural changes in the program will allow us to apply in the near future for an MTSP T32 grant from the NIH to support our program.
