Rachel Tailby joined Generations United this past November as Operations Coordinator. She provides administrative and logistical support to the Finance and Operations Director to facilitate smooth operations and strengthen the organization's functioning. |

Maari Weiss started with Generations United this past December as the Communications Coordinator for the Grandfamilies and Kinship Support Network. Maari creates resources and communications to engage with and support partners as well as to inform the media and public. |

Lee Westell is Generation United's Senior Manager, Communications and started with the team in January. Lee is responsible for managing Generation United's communications efforts including online and traditional media, social media presence and building relationships with the media. |

Seeking Assistant Director, National Center on Grandfamilies - Apply by February 7th |
Generations United’s National Center on Grandfamilies is seeking an Assistant Director to join our results-oriented team. The Assistant Director is responsible for leading a cross-site Kinship Navigator Collaborative program and evaluation, grants and contracts for the Center, overseeing and managing grandfamilies’ engagement, creating and ensuring the quality of the Center’s publications and website content, conducting federal advocacy, and supervising staff and consultants working on relevant projects. The senior-level, Washington DC-based position will work with the organization’s management team to participate in fundraising and budgeting functions of the Center. Diverse Intergenerational Programs Survey |
|
As part of Generations United’s Diverse Intergenerational Programs Initiative, we are conducting a survey to identify and learn more about programs and activities that connect younger and older people. We are especially interested in programs that engage or seek to engage participants from diverse communities. Completed surveys will be entered into a drawing for a $100 Amazon gift card. For Pope Francis, the wisdom of older adults should be shared with the young. It's that belief — that older generations have experience that can help shape the vision and dreams of a younger generation — that led to the pope's unlikely decision to participate in a new Netflix documentary series, "Stories of a Generation with Pope Francis." In this series, based on the pope’s 2018 book, “Sharing the Wisdom of Time,” the program showcases inspiring women and men over 70 including Martin Scorcese and Jane Goodall, who share life lessons and pivotal choices from their remarkable journeys. A respected news outlet is doing a story about children who have lost a parent or caregiver to Covid-19 and the way grandparents have stepped in to either help or support the family or in some cases, raise the grandchildren. Lori's Hands builds dependable, intergenerational partnerships among college student volunteers and community members living with chronic illnesses. Students help with day-to-day tasks and community members educate students about the human experience of chronic disease. This intergenerational community health program is currently operating in Newark, DE, and Baltimore, MD. Learn more.

American Rescue Plan Funding Opportunities. AmeriCorps Seniors' focus with this opportunity are applicants who can demonstrate how they will engage adults age 55 and over in impactful national service to address one or more of the identified priorities. AmeriCorps Seniors prioritizes serving communities that are hard-to-reach and/or those that have been disproportionately impacted by COVID-19. Deadline: Feb. 3, 2022. Learn more.
NEA Funding Guidelines Posted. Guidelines and application materials for Grants for Arts Projects (GAP) and Challenge America funding are now available on the National Endowment for the Arts’ website. The National Endowment for the Arts supports projects in any part of the nation’s 50 states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. jurisdictions. Through their programs, they encourage activities that rebuild the creative economy and educate the next generation, unite and heal the nation through the arts, and serve the nation’s arts field.
Whole Kids Foundation: Garden Grant Program. The Whole Kids Foundation is dedicated to supporting schools and inspiring families to improve children's nutrition and wellness. The Foundation's Garden Grant Program provides funds for eligible gardens at K-12 schools in the U.S. and Canada. Grants of $3000 are awarded to schools as well as nonprofit organizations that serve children in the K-12 age range. Consideration is given to new and or existing garden projects that help at least ten children engage with fresh fruit and vegetables. Applications will be accepted from February 14 through March 11, 2022, for both U.S. and Canadian projects. Learn more.

The AARP Community Challenge provides small grants to fund quick-action projects that can help communities become more livable for people of all ages.
