Before Visiting the Courthouse

If you will be visiting a courthouse this summer, make certain:
  • you know the offices and their hours
  • you know what records are onsite and if any have been moved
  • you know the copy policy
  • you know the policy regarding use of digital cameras, phones, etc. 
  • you know what you are trying to find
  • you know where the nearest motel is
  • you have remembered your manners ;-)

James Kile was survived by 11 sons when he died in Illinois in the 1850s. Settling up his federal land warrant was interesting.

No all towns are searchable.
You Can't Search Your AncestryDNA matches for some locations.

Apparently users of AncestryDNA cannot search their matches for some places of birth.

With distribution costs of the updated, we've finally had to stop sending this out for free after this issue. We hope you've enjoyed receiving the weekly updates, but we simply have to pay the bills to keep things afloat.

There are items in the weekly update that are not published in our blogs.

We're only asking $5 a year to get the weekly update. 

If you don't want to receive the weekly update after that---do nothing. If you'd like to keep getting the weekly update, use one of our two options:
  • auto renewal--your payment option will be charged automatically in a year. You can always stop the payment beforehand.
  • non-auto renewal--you will be billed and not automatically charged
Either way--you do not need a PayPal account. Just click on "pay with debit or credit card." This is the easiest and cheapest way for me to accept credit cards as a small merchant.
