GREAT Annual Meeting, Kampala, 2019
Welcome!
This last quarter has marked the launch of exciting new activities that the GREAT team is pleased to share. GREAT delivered an advanced training for researchers who participated in previous GREAT training, funding was awarded to five research teams of GREAT Fellows, and the team published a Special Issue in the Journal of Gender, Agriculture and Food Security.

The Level 2 training is an advanced course for fellows of previous training cohorts to deepen their knowledge of gender-responsive agricultural research. The advanced course was held from October 18 - November 4 and had 30 participants. Feedback from participants after the training indicated renewed energy and commitment toward integrating gender in their work.

In late 2021, GREAT granted funding to research teams of exemplary GREAT Fellows to apply what they learned in trainings, moving from theory to practice. GREAT funded five research cluster teams in Nigeria, Uganda, Ghana, and Zimbabwe. We are pleased to introduce the research teams in this newsletter. Please stay tuned for plans to disseminate their findings in the latter part of 2022!

Sincerely,

Dr. Margaret Mangheni and Dr. Hale Tufan,
GREAT Co-Principal Investigators

Meet the Research Cluster Teams
Moving from theory to Practice: Deepening gender responsive agricultural research skills of NARs in Sub-Saharan Africa
Department of Global Development, Cornell University | By Zenebech Mesfin
In this blog we highlight the work that five research cluster teams are conducting.Their research ranges from piloting the G+ tools in the rice and groundnut value chains in Ghana and Uganda respectively, research on women’s empowerment and masculinity in Uganda’s food and agriculture systems, understanding and defining resilience within the cassava value chain in Nigeria, and exploring the trade-offs and synergies between gender equality and productivity in Zimbabwe.

The teams are conducting their field work over the next few months, and GREAT looks forward to disseminating their findings in a webinar series to the Community of Practice in late August 2022. Stay tuned for the webinar dates! Read more on the Cornell website and GREAT blog.
