77th Annual Labor Day Parade Monday, Sept. 4
The Noon Exchange Club of Garland will host the 77th annual Garland Labor Day Parade at 9 a.m. Monday, Sept. 4.
The parade will feature more than 50 community float entries and fine arts groups from all seven Garland Independent School District high schools.
The parade will run north from Central Park on Glenbrook Avenue to Austin Street. The route will bypass the Downtown Square due to construction. For more information, head to VisitGarlandTX.com.

Labor Day City Holiday Hours and Services: Monday, Sept. 4
In observance of Labor Day, all City of Garland offices, utility customer service and tax offices, libraries, recreation centers and senior centers will be closed Monday, Sept. 4.
The Charles M. Hinton Landfill and City of Garland Transfer Station and Recycling Center also will be closed. Garbage, recycling, and brush and bulky pickup schedules will not be impacted.
Firewheel Golf Park will operate its usual hours, with the last tee time at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 4.

Applications for Bond Study Committee Due Tuesday, Sept. 5
Garland residents interested in participating in a Bond Study Committee must submit required documents to City Secretary Rene Dowl, RDowl@GarlandTX.gov, by Tuesday, Sept. 5.
Before submitting a proposition to issue new or additional bonds for approval by the voters, the City Council first convenes a Bond Study Committee, composed of not less than nine residents, to make recommendations to the Council on all propositions.
Any proposition to issue new or additional bonds, payable from ad valorem taxes, shall be first submitted to a vote of the qualified voters of the City in an election held and conducted in accordance with state law and the Texas Constitution.
Committee members must be registered voters in Dallas or Collin County and live in Garland for a minimum of one year.

Night at the Museum: Painting Saturday, Sept. 9
Join us for a fun night out in Downtown Garland! Check in at the Landmark Museum, 393 N. Sixth St., between 4 to 7 p.m. for a free lesson on the history of Garland movie houses. While you're there, explore original photos of Garland movie theaters from the museum's archive.
Afterward, head over to The Art Lounge, 510 Main St., for a free acrylic paint lesson, and leave with a beautiful painting of the Plaza Theatre. Professional Essay Classes at the Library
Individuals ages 16 to 25 are invited to participate in a free three-part class series to learn the basics of professional writing to prepare for projects, college applications or career opportunities. Each session is focused on a different step of the writing process: research, essay structure and final editing.
Classes will take place at 3:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Sept. 6, 13 and 20, at the South Garland Library, 4845 Broadway Blvd.

Sixth Annual Garland Guzzler 0.5K Race Saturday, Sept. 23
The Garland Guzzler is back! That's right, the physically demanding π and mentally strenuous π race known as the Garland Guzzler 0.5K is back, live and in-person, for its sixth year!
The Guzzler 0.5K will take place from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, at the Granville Arts Center, 300 N. Fifth St.
Enjoy the post-race events, including food, live music from The Dogensteins, fun for the whole family and much more. Remember, costumes are encouraged!

The City of Garland is planning improvements for Wynn Joyce Park, 2222 Oates Road.

Public Input: Shiloh Road Widening Project
The City of Garland is proposing improvements to Shiloh Road from Kingsley Road to Miller Road. All materials are accessible online at the City of Garland website until Friday, Sept. 8.
As part of the 2019 Bond Program, voters approved improvements to several roadways within Garland to help alleviate traffic congestion and improve mobility. One of the roadway projects is the reconstruction of Shiloh Road (between Kingsley Road and Miller Road) from a four-lane divided thoroughfare to a six-lane divided thoroughfare. Learn more.

Sept. 5
Due to the Labor Day holiday, the Garland City Council Regular Meeting and Work Session will be combined Tuesday, Sept. 5, at City Hall, 200 N. Fifth St. Work Session will begin at 5:30 p.m. and Regular Meeting will begin at 7 p.m. A public hearing on the proposed budget and tax rate will be held at 7 p.m. followed by the adoption of the FY 2023-24 Budget and Tax Rate.

Dallas County Parks and Open Space Program Public Meeting
Sept. 18
The Dallas County Parks and Open Space program is developing a new Master Plan for preserves throughout the county. A series of meetings will be held to inform the public about the process and to collect feedback to incorporate into the plan. The first public meeting will take place from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 18, at 715 Rowlett Road in Garland. Spanish and Vietnamese translators will be available. The Dallas County Open Space Plan will help guide enhancements and improvements to the county preserves over the next 10 years. Learn more.
