Safety Fest and Blood Drive Saturday, Oct. 15

Enjoy a variety of free activities with the Garland Fire Department from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at the Fire Administration and Training Facility, 1500 State Highway 66. 

 

Safety Fest will include food trucks, safety demonstrations, a helicopter landing, a bounce slide, face painting, pet adoptions and an appearance by the Garland Police Department. Kids can even try their luck on our firefighter obstacle course! Learn more.

Warrant Resolution Opportunity Oct. 17-21

The Garland Municipal Court will conduct a Warrant Resolution Drive from Monday, Oct. 17, through Friday, Oct. 21. Anyone with an active outstanding warrant with the court is encouraged to resolve their warrant without fear of being arrested.


During that week, anyone with an active outstanding warrant can appear in-person between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. at the clerk’s window at Garland Municipal Court, 1791 W. Avenue B, to resolve their outstanding warrant(s) and take advantage of the warrant resolution drive incentives.


Alternatively, anyone with an active outstanding warrant can see a judge during Warrant Resolution Week at the Walk-In Docket from 8 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, at Garland Municipal Court. Learn more.

Ribbon-Cutting for Skatepark at Rick Oden Park Saturday, Oct. 22

Celebrate the opening of The Boneyard in Garland at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at Rick Oden Park, 1010 W. Miller Road.


With a total of 46,000 square feet, The Boneyard is the second largest skatepark in Texas and the first skatepark to be developed in Garland. It boasts integrated skate features that combine street terrain, transition terrain and a beginner area, providing users of all abilities with fun, excitement and challenge!


Adjacent to the skatepark, visitors can enjoy amenities such as walking trails, a food truck park, shade pavilions and a permanent restroom.

Rain Barrel Sale Ends Wednesday, Oct. 19

The City of Garland Water Utilities Department is offering an opportunity to purchase rain barrels at a discounted price. Through a cooperative purchase, the classic black, 50-gallon Ivy rain barrel is being offered for $78 each (normal retail price is $139).


Barrels must be ordered by Wednesday, Oct. 19, and must be picked up from Garland Water Operations, 2343 Forest Lane, between 3 and 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1, or Wednesday, Nov. 2. Please bring a vehicle large enough to carry your order on pickup day.

Friends of the Library Book Sale Oct. 20-22

The annual Friends of the Library Book Sale is back! The sale will take place Oct. 20-22 at the South Garland Branch Library, 4845 Broadway Blvd.


There will be a members-only preview sale from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20. The public sale will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Oct. 21 and 22.


Shoppers will find great bargains on a variety of adult and children's books, fiction and nonfiction, paperback and hardcover, and reference books, as well as puzzles, DVDs, audio books and more.  


The Friends of the Nicholson Memorial Library is a community organization dedicated to supporting and promoting the library. Want to join? Membership forms are available at all Garland library locations and at Library.GarlandTX.gov.

Flu Shots and Bivalent COVID-19 Booster Available at Garland Public Health Clinic

This year's flu vaccine and the bivalent COVID-19 booster are now available at the Garland Public Health Clinic.


Flu shots are available for adults, children and seniors who are insured. Low-cost flu vaccines for uninsured children and adults are also available.


It is recommended that individuals wait at least two months after completion of the primary COVID vaccination series or their most recent booster. For full eligibility information, visit GarlandTX.gov.


Both vaccinations are available at the Garland Public Health Clinic, 206 Carver St., from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays.

The Garland City Council Work Session will begin at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 10. Regular Meeting will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, at City Hall, 200 N. Fifth St.

The Garland Plan Commission will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 10, at City Hall, 200 N. Fifth St.

District 4 Town Hall Meeting

Join District 4 Council Member B.J. Williams for a Town Hall Meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, at Audubon Recreation Center, 342 W. Oates Road. Jynneos Vaccine for Monkeypox

Vaccination is for prevention of monkeypox only. People with confirmed cases of monkeypox or symptoms of monkeypox are not eligible to receive the vaccine. Vaccine remains in low supply and can currently only be offered to people who meet one of the criteria listed online. If you suspect you are at high risk, you may call 972-205-3370. More information on the vaccines used to protect against monkeypox virus can be found on the CDC website.
