Election Day Is Tuesday, Nov. 8

Tuesday, Nov. 8, voters will go to the polls to decide the state's next governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general and several other offices. Voters will also elect officials for congressional and legislative offices, the State Board of Education and judicial seats.

 

Early voting begins tomorrow, Oct. 24, and ends Friday, Nov. 4.

Free Class: Fourth Quarter Lawn Care

Join Texas A&M AgriLife and Extension Urban Water Specialist Becky Bowling from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, to learn how to prepare your lawn for cooler months.


In this free virtual class, you'll learn the 10 most important practices to ensure your lawn comes back lean, mean and green in the spring. You'll also learn about fertilization, pest management, and fall and winter watering.

Mark your calendars for Halloween fun in Garland!

Throwback Movie at the Plaza Theatre Thursday, Oct. 27

 

Catch a screening of "Beetlejuice" (rated PG) at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, at the Plaza Theatre, 521 W. State St., presented by the Garland Downtown Business Association.


Admission is free. Seating is first-come, first-served. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Concessions will be available for purchase.

Trunk-or-Treat Friday, Oct. 28


Bring the kids out for a safe trick-or-treating experience from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, at Bradfield Recreation Center, 1146 Castle Drive.


There will be games, a kids' costume contest and more, so wear your costumes and bring your treat bags! Be sure to check out the Garland Graveyard while you're there! Learn more.

Fun Fright Fiesta Saturday, Oct. 29


Join us for a fun and spooky family event from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at the Central Library, 625 Austin St.


There will be games, adult and kids' crafts, treats and more! There will even be a piñata breaking at 3 p.m.

Campfire Tales Saturday, Oct. 29


Enjoy a campfire on the lawn next to the Landmark Museum while listening to true accounts, tall tales and criminal activities.

 

The spooky fun will take place Saturday, Oct. 29. Settle in around the fire for campfire tales from 6 to 7 p.m., then stick around for free s'mores from 7 to 8 p.m. Attendees are welcome to bring their own food, drink, blankets and folding chairs. The event is free and no registration is required.

Garland Cemetery Walking Tour


Graveyards are outdoor museums that contain vast amounts of historic artistic and architectural information. As you walk through the Garland Mills Cemetery, 500 Mills Road, consider that these are the lives that made our city.

 

Self-guided tour guidebooks are available at the Garland Landmark Museum, 393 N. Sixth St., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Learn more.

Dia de los Muertos Tuesday, Nov. 1

The Dia de los Muertos tradition continues from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1, at the Granville Arts Center, 300 N. Fifth St.


Join us in honoring past loved ones at this free event with performances by Los Matachines, various Garland Independent School District and I.L. Texas student performances from mariachi to ballet folklorico, and more! There will be food trucks, bounce houses and altar displays as well.

Flu Shots and Bivalent COVID-19 Booster Available at Garland Public Health Clinic

This year's flu vaccine and the bivalent COVID-19 booster are available at the Garland Public Health Clinic.


Flu shots are available for adults, children and seniors who are insured. Low-cost flu vaccines for uninsured children and adults are also available.


It is recommended that individuals wait at least two months after completion of the primary COVID vaccination series or their most recent booster. For full eligibility information, visit GarlandTX.gov.


Both vaccinations are available at the Garland Public Health Clinic, 206 Carver St., from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays.

Plan Commission

Oct. 24

The Garland Plan Commission will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 24, at City Hall, 200 N. Fifth St.

In-person meetings have resumed, but you can continue to watch the meetings online.

Neighborhood Awards Applications and Nominations Due

Oct. 30

The City of Garland's Office of Neighborhood Vitality is looking to recognize those who make extraordinary efforts to enhance, revitalize or invest in their neighborhoods. Applications and nominations are due Sunday, Oct. 30. Winners will be announced at the Neighborhood Summit Pre-Conference Mixer Thursday, Nov. 10.
