General Election Results


The City of Garland held a general election on Saturday, May 4, to elect a City Council member for District 2 and to decide on 17 proposed amendments to the City Charter.

The election results will be certified at a special meeting of the Garland City Council at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 14.

City of Garland Seeks Resident Input


Your opinion matters, and we want to hear it! The City is asking all residents to complete Garland’s first-ever Community Survey. The survey is a partnership with the National Research Center at Polco to evaluate City services, quality of life in Garland and residents’ priorities for the future. Responses will be used by the City Council and staff to assist with upcoming strategic planning and budgeting.

PSRW has been celebrated since 1985 as a nationwide public education campaign honoring the men and women who serve as federal, state, county and local government employees.

Apply Now for Garland Youth Council


The application period to become a member of the Garland Youth Council is open now through June 7. Members will receive an education into the various workings of City business and have access to voice their particular ideas and concerns within City government.


Prospective members must reside in Garland and be in grades 9-12 during the 2024-25 school year. Members will be appointed by the Garland City Council in July.

Angela Self Recognized for Impact on the Planning Profession


City of Garland Planning Administrator Angela Self has achieved the prestigious title of American Institute of Certified Planners Fellow for her outstanding achievements in urban planning. 


Fellowship is granted to planners who have achieved certification through the American Planning Association’s professional institute, the American Institute of Certified Planners.


Self is the Planning Administrator for the City of Garland and has more than 25 years of planning experience. She has worked for urban and suburban communities focusing on underserved communities impacted by social, economic and environmental inequalities. Learn more.

2024 Graduation Season Traffic Alert


Graduation season is here and Garland ISD's Curtis Culwell Center will host ceremonies from Thursday, May 9, through Sunday, June 2.


The Garland Police Department wants motorists to be aware of potential traffic congestion and alternate routes in the area of the intersection of North Garland Avenue and the Bush Turnpike during these events.

Garland Symphony Orchestra Presents Pianist Stephen Beus Friday, May 10

 

The Garland Symphony Orchestra will feature pianist Stephen Beus at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 10, at the Granville Arts Center, 300 N. Fifth St.

 

The program will include Elgar's Cockaigne Overture, Harnick's Selections from Fiddler on the Roof and Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5 in Eb Major ("Emperor").

Build Garland Day Saturday, May 11


The City's fourth Build Garland Day event to celebrate projects from its 2019 bond election is planned for Saturday, May 11.


Come join Council members and City staff at 9 a.m. for a ribbon-cutting at Hollabaugh Recreation Center, 3925 W. Walnut St., then at 10 a.m. around the corner at the reimagined Watson Park, 1100 N. Yale Drive.

Travels in History Lecture Saturday, May 11


Join the Garland Landmark Museum for the latest Travels in History lecture, Downtown Garland's Square of Change Part II, at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 11, at the museum, 393 N. Sixth St.


Learn all about how the Downtown Garland Square has changed throughout the years.

The lecture is free to Garland Landmark Society members and $10 for guests. You can also choose to join the society for $20 and see all of the lectures this year for FREE!
