Labor Day Parade, Festivities and City Services: Monday, Sept. 2 
The 74th annual Labor Day parade and festivities, presented by the Noon Exchange Club of Garland, will take place Monday, Sept. 2. The parade begins at 9 a.m. followed by the car show from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Visit NoonExchangeClubofGarland.com for more details.
 
In observance of Labor Day, all City of Garland offices, utility customer service and tax offices, libraries , recreation centers and senior centers  will be closed Monday, Sept. 2. See a full list of closures at GarlandTX.gov.
Garland Ranked One of Best Cities to Buy a Family Home
Garland was named among the best cities in the country to buy a family home by personal finance website SmartAsset.com.

The study ranked Garland number 19 out of the 100 biggest cities in the U.S.

Learn to Apply for a Garland Neighborhood Award Tuesday,
Aug. 27
Do you think your neighborhood is awesome? Learn how to share your neighborhood's story in a way that helps it receive the recognition it deserves.

The class, hosted by the Garland Neighborhood Management Academy, will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, at the Main Street Municipal Building, 800 Main St.



Adult Craft Workshop at the Library Saturday, Sept. 7
Adults can make their own pincushions using plastic bottle caps, fabric, fiberfill and decorative materials at
2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, at the South Garland Branch Library, 4845 Broadway Blvd.
 
All supplies are provided by the library. Registration is required and limited to 24 participants. Call 972-205-3931 to register.


Skatepark Design Workshop Tuesday, Sept. 10 
Be a part of creating Garland's modern concrete skatepark, which will be located at Rick Oden Park. 

Learn about this exciting community project and contribute your ideas for the facility's design at this come-and-go style meeting from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10, at the Granger Annex Building at Central Park, 1302 W. Avenue F.

Plan Commission
Aug. 26
The  Garland Plan Commission meets on the second and fourth Monday of each month at 7 p.m. at City Hall, 200 N. Fifth St.   View agendas  at  GarlandTX.gov and be sure to click the "subscribe" button to receive notifications when meeting agendas are posted.

City Council Meeting
Aug. 27
City Council will hold a special session on the  proposed budget  for the coming fiscal year  Tuesday, Aug. 27. A Work Session  will begin at 6 p.m. and a Public Hearing will begin at 7 p.m.  Meetings are held on the first floor of City Hall, 200 N. Fifth St.  View agendas .

Community Update: Homelessness
Sept. 5
District 5 Council Member Rich Aubin will host a meeting to discuss changes the City has made to address its homeless population, including funds set aside in the 2019-20 budget. The meeting will take place at 7 p.m. at  New Liberty Baptist Church, 333 W. Centerville Road . Garland Police Chief Jeff Bryan and Dallas County Commissioner Dr. Theresa Daniel will also participate.

Sept. 24
Mayor Scott LeMay will host an Evening In event from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, in the Mayor's Office, 200 N. Fifth St.  The Mayor's Evening In is your chance to get a one-on-one opportunity to visit with Mayor LeMay to discuss what's important to you.
