City of Garland Seeks Resident Input


Resident input is critical to a healthy and thriving community. That’s why we’re excited to announce a new and easy way for you to provide opinions about quality of life, City services and priorities for the future. The City is partnering with the National Research Center at Polco to launch Garland’s first-ever National Community Survey. It’s open to all residents and offers both printed and digital options for completion. The survey is available in English, Spanish and Vietnamese. 


If you receive a survey invitation at your home, please follow the instructions to complete it. Also keep an eye out for an upcoming announcement with the online survey link and list of locations to pick up printed copies. Learn more.

Early Voting for General Election Begins Tomorrow


The City of Garland will hold a general election on Saturday, May 4, to elect a City Council member for District 2 and to decide on 17 proposed amendments to the City Charter. Tuesday, April 23, is the last day to receive an application in person for a ballot to be voted by mail.


Early voting by personal appearance will begin Monday, April 22, and end Tuesday, April 30. Garland residents have the convenience of county-wide voting and may vote at any polling location in Dallas County.

Municipal Library Directors Association Recognizes Garland


Garland’s libraries have earned the state association’s Achievement of Excellence in Libraries Award for demonstrating consistent excellence and for its contributions to services within the community.


Only 84 of the state’s 545 public libraries earned the recognition from the Texas Municipal Library Directors Association. And it’s the 19th consecutive year in which Garland has received the honor. Learn more.

Firewheel Classic Golf Tournament April 24-27


The All Pro Tour is headed to Garland! The future stars of the PGA Tour are coming to Firewheel Golf Park to compete for a potential spot in the The CJ Cup Byron Nelson and a $20,000 grand prize!


The tournament will take place at Firewheel Golf Park, Bridges - Masters/Champions.


Spanning four days, April 24-27, the 72-hole tournament will showcase 156 of some of the best golfers with a dream to play on the PGA Tour.

 

The Firewheel Classic is the fourth event of the 2024 APT season.

Lone Star Paintball Tournament April 26-28

 

The Lone Star Paintball Tournament will take place Friday, April 26, through Sunday, April 28, at Audubon Park, 720 W. Oates Road.

 

Get ready for fast-paced paintball action as the National Xball League tournament descends upon Garland. Watch the best paintball teams from around the world battle it out over three days of intense competition.

 

Divisional (amateur) fields are open for free viewing. Grandstand or VIP tickets are also available for purchase at the main stage.

 

The NXL is renowned as the premier tournament paintball circuit across North America and Europe and features the top competitors globally. The event includes a large trade show where leading names in paintball showcase their latest products.

Top Adaptive Skateboarders Coming to Garland April 27


The largest skatepark in North Texas is unveiling new signage on Saturday, April 27. The City is planning a first-of-its-kind celebration to commemorate the renaming of Jon Comer Skatepark. Skaters, spectators, family and friends are invited to a special unveiling ceremony and two skateboarding contests.

 

The celebration will kick off at 11 a.m. with the unveiling of new skatepark signage. Then, an Adaptive Skateboarding Contest will rank competing athletes in an ongoing points system structured for Paralympic qualifying. Following its completion, a Best Trick Contest open to any skater in attendance will take place. Competitors of all ages, abilities and disabilities are encouraged to show off their skills for a chance to win exciting and unique prizes.

Nature Walk at Spring Creek Forest Preserve Sunday, April 28


Nature and wildlife photographer Matthew Stepanek will take participants on "A Photo Trek Through Nature’s Gallery" from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday, April 28, at the Preserve, 1770 Holford Road.


Stepanek will start the event at the pavilion, demonstrating and answering basic camera questions. Then he will lead us into the forest so you can get hands-on experience and tips for vibrant nature shots in a variety of locations.


Bring a camera, if possible; DSLR/full lens cameras would be preferred, but cellphones work as well. Long pants and sturdy shoes are recommended.

Bubble Bash at the Library Saturday, April 27


Children ages 2 to 5 can make bubble art, giant bubbles and explore simple science concepts from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, April 27, at the North Garland Library, 3845 N. Garland Ave.


Space is limited, and a free ticket is required for the event. Tickets will be available 30 minutes before the event. For more information, call 972-205-2804.

Elton John Tribute Band at the Plaza Theatre Tuesday, April 30


The No. 1 Elton John tribute band will perform at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, at the Plaza Theatre, 521 W. State St.
