ACTIVITIES UPDATE
There sure is a lot going on this time of year, from giving drives to activities and more! Here's a little snapshot of KASD's Winter Activities and Athletics:
National Honor Society has been busy, hosting a number of
Food Drive competitions. Electa Quinney Elementary School donated over 1,000 items, winning the Traveling Food Drive Trophy in the district-wide competition. The Band beat the rest of the high school students in their food item donation with nearly 4,000 items going to Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry. And the Spike it to Hunger food drive competition at the quad Boys Volleyball match saw Kaukauna, Appleton North, Notre Dame, Fond du Lac and Oshkosh volleyball teams donating to the cause. Additionally, NHS would like to extend a big thank you to Joe Huss and Greg Krause for collecting all the food from the grade schools and River View and delivering it to Loaves and Fishes!
NHS Blood Drives have been steadily gaining popularity - and helping save lives! In September, they had 111 donors (total), 40 of them stopping in for the first time! They collected 82 units ... that's 10.25 gallons of blood! In November, they had 148 donors, 33 of them new, for 112 units collected and a
record 14 gallons of blood! NHS also formed a partnership with Chartwells in an effort to reduce the number of students deferred for lack of iron by providing iron-rich foods prior to blood drives.
The
Polar Plunge is coming soon -
February 17, 2017 to be exact. NHS students are registering themselves to take the plunge into Lake Winnebago to benefit the Special Olympics.
And our popular
Senior Citizen Computer Classes are coming back again this year. The dates are January 25, February 22, and March 29 from 6:30 - 8:00 in the computer labs at KHS. Please contact Karla Miller-Flynn
at (920) 766-6113 x 5826 to register. There is no cost for these classes.
In other fall wrap-up news,
Girls Golfers Lily Sheppard, Hannah Moore, Emma Moore and Ally Isselmann were all named Academic All-State Honorees. These girls did an incredible job this fall, serving as role models to other student-athletes both playing and achieving academically at a high level.
Boys Basketball won their season opener at home against Hortonville in front of a large crowd. They've been playing well and are 2-0 in the conference. They'll travel to Concordia University on December 28 and 29 to play LaCrosse Central (a rematch of last year's state semi-final!) and Whitnall. In addition to their other conference games, they'll take on Minnesota powerhouse DeLaSalle on January 28th in Apple Valley Minnesota.
Girls Basketball opened their season with a win at home against Menasha. They'll play in a tournament in Baraboo on December 29 and 30 in addition to their conference play.
The
Wrestling team won their opening FVA dual against Hortonville, then went 5-0 at the Kettle Moraine Laser Duals. They head to the Minnesota Christmas Tournament December 16 and 17, and the Cheesehead is just around the corner, where we'll host 32 teams and some of the country's top talent right here at KHS.
Gymnastics opened up their season in Manitowoc on Saturday, December 10, and heads to Wisconsin Rapids in early January.
The Dance team started their year off with a first place finish in D2 Pom at the Wauwautosa West invite. They took 2nd at the Little Chute Classic this past weekend, and will host the Kaukauna Dance Classic on January 14.
We're off to a great start this winter, and we look forward to all the good things to come! And you can always get updated information about what's going on at KHS by following the Kaukauna Ghosts on Twitter! |
