Dana Alliance for Brain Initiatives
(DABI) has named James Giordano, PhD, as one of its newest members. The DABI honors the lifelong achievements of brain scientists worldwide for making substantive contributions to advancing key aspects of the field in science and society. Giordano, a professor of neurology and biochemistry, is chief of the Neuroethics Studies Program in the Pellegrino Center for Clinical Bioethics.
Georgetown Lauded for Research Animal Care and Use
The Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC) International Council on Accreditation has awarded Georgetown University full accreditation once again. HOYA Clinic at a breakfast in New York City on December 6. The Paul Robert Carey Foundation was founded by his family, friends and physician "to return the blessings we all shared in him, by enabling people battling cancer and other diseases to obtain vital quality of life needs and services not funded by traditional medical reimbursements."
Georgetown and USP Quality Institute Name Fellows
The USP Quality Institute and Georgetown University Medical Center announced the inaugural fellows selected for the institutions'
Fellowship in Quality Medical Products
. The fellows, Matthew Hassett, PhD, and Marissa Malchione, MS, will conduct research to address evidence gaps relating to the impact of poor-quality medicines on antimicrobial resistance.
Ben Johnson (NHS'17), a human science alumnus and current student at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, received a Marshall Scholarship. He will pursue master's degrees at the University of Edinburgh and King's College of London.
Success for Big Hoya Little Saxa Book Drive
The Big Hoya Little Saxa back-to-school book drive held earlier this fall received a total of 259 book donations from GUMC students, faculty and staff. The organizers thank Dean Jett McCann and the Dahlgren Memorial Library for their support, as well as all of those who donated.
