The threat of catastrophic wildfires and regular loss of electricity are two of the largest threats to housing and economic stability found in rural California.

Lake and Tuolumne Counties are trying to do something about this, working to install a system that combines water tanks and pipelines equipped with hydro turbines to serve double duty as both an energy storage asset as well as a new firefighting resource.
