Learn more about the charities GSAR is supporting this holiday season

For many years GSAR and its members have supported the charitable work of the Francis House and On Point for College. This year during the holiday season you have the opportunity to support this year's fundraising effort by clicking the buttons on your member portal. Our goal this year is to raise $2,500 for each organization. Watch the video to learn more about the work done by these organizations.

Francis House provides a home and a supportive extended family to people with terminal illnesses; those with a prognosis of six months or less to live. Our family of caregivers, staff, and volunteers surround each resident with unconditional love, guided by core values of compassion, acceptance, respect, and dignity. Francis House welcomes all residents regardless of faith, ethnicity or ability to pay for their care.

On Point for College is a nationally-recognized college attainment program. Its offerings include college success (completion) support, career planning and placement support, and most recently, support with non-college post-secondary credential attainment. It has grown from serving only Syracuse to serving nearly all of Central New York, including Cayuga, Herkimer, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, and Oswego Counties.

On Point services are 100% free and available to students of all ages, backgrounds, and educational levels. On Point specializes in helping high school students and recent graduates, as well as those who have been away from school for a while or who have earned GED or HSE credentials. On Point also has extensive experience working with populations who may face additional challenges including, but not limited to, refugee or immigrant status, dependent children, experience with the foster care system, a history of court involvement, and housing insecurity.

GSAR and CNYIS donate to two local charities

GSAR and CNYIS recently donated a combined $10,000 each to the Rescue Mission and Food Bank of Central New York.

Since 1887, the Rescue Mission has helped those in need in Onondaga County, providing emergency shelter, clothing, and three free meals every day of the year. Beyond meeting these basic needs, the staff works with those who enter our programs to develop an individual plan and access the support they need to leave homelessness and hunger behind. The Rescue Mission offers employment and education resources, life skills training, and spiritual care. We also connect our guests and residents to mental health providers, substance abuse programming, and physical health services.

The Food Bank of Central New York is a not-for-profit organization leading the effort to eliminate hunger in our region, by partnership with others in our community, through education, advocacy, and distribution of nutritious food. The Food Bank partners with 360 organizations n the counties of Cayuga, Chenango, Cortland, Herkimer, Jefferson, Lewis, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, Oswego, and St. Lawrence.

The core of its work is achieved by partnering with local agencies that distribute food to individuals and families in need. The key partners that make up our emergency food network are food pantries, soup kitchens, and emergency shelters. Other not-for-profit agencies such as daycare centers, rehabilitation centers, senior centers, and group homes are able to utilize membership as a way to supplement their agency food needs.

GSAR President Nancy Quigg and CNYIS President Mark Re present the donation to the Rescue Mission during its Movie with Mission broadcast last week on News Channel 9.

MLS Tip

Rules reminder: Reporting non-MLS sales for comp purposes

Reporting Non-MLS Sales for Comparable Purposes Only (Comp Only): For sold data to be entered into the MLS for the sole purpose of comparable information, an MLS* subscriber/participant must represent the buying side of the transaction. These include listings that were not made available for cooperation/compensation such as a FSBO, New Construction, or a listing from a neighboring MLS (excludes wholesale, assigned contracts, and the acquisition side of distressed sales). These may be entered for Selling/Buyer’s Agent credit only after the sale is finalized. Please contact your MLS for the written procedure on how to proceed which will include how to enter the listing so it will not show as available. The MLS will update the listing agent, replacing it with the unrepresented seller ID for that MLS, and then correct the listing, contract, and closing dates. Listings entered for comparable purposes only will have “For Comparable Purposes Only” added to the first line of private remarks. If the comparable sale is not submitted within thirty (30) calendar days of its closing date, it cannot be entered into the MLS. These entries are optional.

* MLS includes all MLS’s that participate in the New York State Alliance of MLSs database.

In addition, no participant will report a single sale more than one time on any property filed with the Multiple Listing Service
