Learning from the Past: Barclays Center Arena
Barclays Center Arena
In anticipation of GREYHAWK’s sponsorship of the ABA Forum on Construction Law Fall Conference next week, we’ve reached into the archives to highlight the conference theme of “Building the Next Generation: Learning from the Past.” GREYHAWK’s participation on the Barclays Center Arena project demonstrates how, by understanding how project troubles start, steps can be taken to proactively mitigate issues and ensure success. Applying our years of experience in forensic scheduling and analysis of construction claims and disputes, GREYHAWK provided Critical Path Method (CPM) scheduling services to the Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) design/build contractor on this fast-track project. GREYHAWK also provided proactive risk management and dispute resolution services. As a result of GREYHAWK’s efforts, and despite numerous project impacts, the design/builder was able to mitigate any delays through owner-financed acceleration, ultimately achieving the planned substantial completion date and realizing most of its budgeted fee.

GREYHAWK has been awarded commissioning assignments for both the Lawncrest Recreation Center and Library and the Blanche A. Nixon / Cobbs Creek Library projects. Both are part of the Rebuild effort. Made possible by the Philadelphia Beverage Tax, Rebuild will invest hundreds of millions of dollars into improving community facilities throughout the city, including physical improvements to parks, recreation centers, and libraries; promoting diversity and economic inclusion; and engaging with the community. The Lawncrest Recreation Center project involves a 4,800-sf building addition, envelope repairs, roof replacement, renovations, building systems upgrades, and site improvements designed to achieve LEED Silver certification. The Lawncrest Branch of the Free Library of Philadelphia will undergo envelope repairs, roof replacement, interior alterations, and building systems upgrades. SITIO Architecture + Urbanism is the architect for both projects. The Blanche A. Nixon / Cobbs Creek Library first opened in 1925 and sits on the Philadelphia Register of Historic Places.
