BMW CHAMPIONSHIP RETURNS TO CHICAGO'S NORTH SHORE

Get ready for a star-studded event, as the 2017 BMW Championship takes center stage on September 12-17, returning for the 3rd time to Conway Farms in Lake Forest, IL. The BMW Championship is the penultimate event in the PGA TOUR's FedExCup Playoffs, with the top 70 PGA TOUR players competing for an $8.75 million purse, including $1.575 million for the winner. Past champions include Jason Day, Zach Johnson, Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose, Dustin Johnson and Tiger Woods. The BMW Championship features a field of 70 players to determine the final 30 players for the FedExCup finale at the TOUR Championship in Atlanta.
All net proceeds from the BMW Championship benefit the Evans Scholars Foundation, which grants full college scholarships to deserving young caddies. Since BMW became title sponsor in 2007, the tournament has contributed more than $24 million to the Evans Scholars Foundation. In fall 2017, 935 caddies were sent to 20 major universities on Evans Scholarships, and there are more than 10,400 Evans Alumni. The WGA's Board of Governors has set a goal of having 1,000 Evans Scholars enrolled in college annually by 2020. The Evans Program is funded by contributions from more than 30,000 donors across the country, including many Evans Alumni, and by proceeds from the BMW Championship.

What's it like to be a caddie and to be selected as an Evans Scholar? We had the opportunity to find out more about this one young man's personal journey and his road to becoming an Evans Scholar. His story will bring tears to your eyes!
Up Close & Personal - An Evans Scholar Story

By Noah Enright
Sophomore Evans Scholar at Marquette University
As I walk onto the majestic golf course and glance down the sprawling par four with peaceful water to the right and manicured sand to the left I often ask myself, "Is this heaven?" Heaven maybe, but when I first began caddying a devil in the shape of a massive cherry red golf bag comes to mind.
I had just turned 14 when I started caddying and my golf experience consisted of hitting an orange ball through a windmill at the local putt putt. My first loop was on an early Saturday morning, my mom dropped me off into an empty parking lot while the sun was still fast asleep. I waited in line outside the caddy shack while dive bombing mosquitos attacked me at my most vulnerable spots. The caddy master handed me my chit assignment and thus began the bittersweet beginning that I would have with the game of golf ...
