The PC(USA) will be on PBS!

The PC(USA) has partnered with the Viewpoint project to create an educational segment focusing on the denomination’s Matthew 25 commitment to creating healthy, just communities and a radically inclusive world. In May, households across the U.S. can view this segment via their local public broadcasting station. Your local PBS station will have the opportunity to show this documentary between broadcasts. A shorter version of the segment will also air across a myriad of cable networks like CNN and HLN.

We would love to know the impact of this program on our congregations. If you see an increase in visitors, please let us know at social@pcusa.org.

Clergy Rest and Renewal Grant

Read about one of our pastors who received a grant, and was featured in the newsletter for “Altar Fly Fishing".

Thank you for caring for Lucia by praying before and during the Altar Fly Fishing Retreat this past April. She experienced time away in God's creation, ceasing work for a short time, and pausing to reflect considering the rhythms of her life. Thirteen pastors attended the retreat in central Pennsylvania—nine of them had never fly fished before. It was our joy to take them to the streams each day and see them catch beautiful trout. Why fly fishing? There is a beautiful cadence to casting a fly rod and a different rhythm to life when you stand in a stream feeling the cool water rush by.

Our 2023 retreat theme is—rhythm. How do we live into a healthy rhythm of work and rest each week? We invited the pastors into an R=6+1 way of life. We solve for “R” by working six days and resting one day. Each morning and evening during the retreat we engaged in rich discussion and reflection around this theme, exploring what it means to truly rest. By the end of our time together, Lucia and the other pastors were working on a plan to solve for “R” in their lives as they returned home.

Pastors and chaplains: have you applied for a rest and renewal grant yet? Funds are still available.

God is Calling –

Can you hear?

Online only applications for the 226th General Assembly are now being accepted through September 28th!

226th General Assembly is scheduled for June 25, 2024 – July 4, 2024 at Salt Lake City, Utah featuring in-person plenaries and online committee work.

One of my favorite hymns is God Is Calling Through the Whisper. There’s so much meaning in this simple hymn of God’s call to us through the Spirit’s deep sighs, of flashing lightning and crashing thunder, to the wonder of sublime stillness. We find God calling through voices silenced, pleading for redemption, release and rescue. God calls us from the beauty of the arts and the songs of our hearts. Today, God is still calling, calling those to service with brothers and sisters across this entire nation to come together to help make God’s church better, so that we may all "Live Into Hope." Is God calling you?

Applications for 226th General Assembly commissioners for 2024 in Salt Lake City, Utah are now available to any minister member and ruling elder from the Presbytery of Wabash Valley. Is God calling you? Can you hear?

Young adults, between the ages of eighteen (18) and twenty-three (23) on the date the General Assembly convenes may apply as a Young Adult Advisory Delegate (YAAD). A YAAD applicant must be an active member of a congregation, participant of a New Worshiping Community or immigrant fellowship that has a relationship with the presbytery. Is God calling you? Can you hear?

Friends and Colleagues, I am wanting to give the books remaining from my professional library to anyone who might find them useful. I have about 300 mixed volumes of theology, biblical studies, philosophy, church administration, Zen, Islam and whatnot... free for the taking. The books are in good condition and stored in several large banker's boxes. I can deliver within a reasonable distance from Peru, Indiana or you can come and get them. I’d prefer not to sift through for a particular volume.

Email me if you have any interest, squinlan52@gmail.com

Thanks, Steve Quinlan

PRAYERS OF THE PRESBYTERY

Creator and Ever-Creating God, your love and grace connect your people in ways that constantly amaze us. We are grateful that you call us to walk together on our journey, and we give thanks for siblings with whom we can share joys and burdens. Help us to be humble companions, acknowledging one another’s gifts, as we seek to ensure that all may experience the fullness of life promised in Christ. Amen.

Prayer from Presbyterian Mission Year Book

We pray today

  • for the ministry and service of Goshen, First Presbyterian Church;
  • for all those who are undergoing and waiting for diagnosis for health issues;
  • for all those who serve the church and the Lord God;
  • for the many affected by gun violence;
  • for those who suffer with mental illness;
  • for those who navigate the world with chronic illness.

Gracious God, hear our prayers.
