Yarra Valley Pinot Noir and Chardonnay has undergone something of a renaissance over the past decade or so, with several long-standing makers returning to top form, and a host of new producers hitting their straps and showing their potential.
Leading this exciting surge in quality and compelling style is Giant Steps, established around 20 years ago but really taking its place amongst Victoria's (and indeed, Australia's) best Pinot Noir and Chardonnay producers since 2012.
The focus on a range of single-vineyard bottling, highlighting the stylistic differences and nuances between terroir, clonal selection and winemaking techniques has really emphasised this consistent excellence, and as such, the wines have been recognised by critics, collectors and consumers alike.
Owning more than 130 acres of vineyards and buying in additional fruit, production is now around 20,000 dozen annually, but the single-vineyard bottling are produced in small volumes - as little as 200 cases for some.
Notwithstanding an overall very high level of quality across the range - and especially noteworthy for the value these wines represent - for us, the pinnacle in quality is reached by the 'Tarraford' Chardonnay, 'Applejack' Pinot Noir and 'Sexton' Pinot Noir, and it is these three wines that we will present on tasting tomorrow. All come from the exceptional 2017 vintage, considered by many to be a new high waterline for not only Yarra Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, but throughout Victoria.
Please note, quantities are limited for each of these wines, so please do not delay in ordering.
Come in this Saturday and join us from 11:00am to try them for yourself.
