GHHS Chapter and Hospital in Puerto Rico, Face Dire Conditions Months after Hurricane Maria
After Hurricane Maria struck Puerto Rico in September, medical student Eduardo Lopez reached out from the Gold Humanism Honor Society chapter at Ponce Health Sciences University, on the southern side of the island. Emails from him and Dr. Susanna Vargas-Pinto, a Ponce Health Sciences graduate and fourth-year general surgery resident at SUNY Buffalo, paint a desperate picture. Watch a video here of how Ponce Health Sciences University is reaching out to their community in distress .
Many students have been relocated since their apartments were affected by the hurricane. Students and residents are in need of basic supplies like water, personal hygiene products, food and snacks. The hospitals are running out
of supplies; fluids, antibiotics and insulin are becoming scarce –
anything will help!
