GCVCC Welcomes CA State Superintendent Tony Thurmond Today
The Greater Coachella Valley Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a special digital town hall with California State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond. Superintendent Thurmond will be joining us as a guest of Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia, representing the CA 56th Assembly District. Superintendent Thurmond will be providing an update on the largest public school system in the nation, with more than 6.3 million students and over 10,000 schools. The virtual town hall will be held today, February 17, 2021, at 11:00 AM. This event is free to attend. Please join us.
Legislative Update
California SB 74 (SUPPORT)
The GCVCC has taken a position of support for SB 74, the Keep California Working Act, which would invest $2.6 billion in grants to help small businesses and non-profits that have sustained financial losses resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic.
California AB 62 (SUPPORT)
The GCVCC has taken a position of support for AB 62, which would provide small and essential businesses with an income tax credit for the costs of complying with the Division of Occupational Safety and Health (Cal/OSHA) COVID-19 Emergency Temporary Standards.
California AB 25 (SUPPORT)
The GCVCC is supporting AB 25, which would restore the multi-factor test, otherwise known as the Borello test, for evaluating whether a person is an employee or an independent contractor.

GCVCC Supports City of Coachella Streets and Roads Plan
The GCVCC has taken a position of support for the application that the City of Coachella submitted to SCAG under its Sustainable Communities Program Community-Wide Plans Application to enhance connectivity across its transportation network in the City of Coachella through the development of a Local Streets and Roads Plan.
GCVCC Supports Indio Active Transportation Plan
The GCVCC supports the City of Indio’s application to develop and implement an Active Transportation Plan (ATP). The Plan will identify projects that make it easier and safer for residents to walk or bike to local destinations and increase recreation activity. This Plan that will help to resolve deficiencies in connectivity and better accommodate multi-modal travel consistent with the City of Indio’s General Plan.
