virtual symposium showcases product variety and innovation
|
|
During the week of July 12-16, 2021, the German American Chambers of Commerce in the US and the Canadian German Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in collaboration with alp Bayern, organized a virtual delegation trip for Bavarian food and beverage companies. The delegation consisted of seven companies ranging from snacks, cheese and chocolates to wine, meat and bakery products. The producers hope to expand their businesses by entering the North American food and beverage market.
The program kicked off with a virtual symposium on Monday, July 12 featuring welcome remarks from Dr. Markus Brill, Minister Counselor Food and Agriculture at the German Embassy in Washington, DC, followed by short presentations from the seven Bavarian companies. The program also included an expert panel discussion with speakers from the North American and German food & beverage industry. Rick Meixner from Multi National Foods, Rainer Schindler from Ragold Connect and Tobias Lehmen, a beverage industry consultant, discussed market entry strategies, opportunities and challenges as well as latest industry trends.
On the following days, the Bavarian companies virtually explored New York, Chicago, Toronto, San Francisco and Atlanta. The program included presentations, roundtable discussions, virtual site visits and networking sessions. The German American and Canadian German chambers also organized over 30 individual B2B meetings for the Bavarian companies with potential business partners in the US and Canada.

Apprentice thrives at Dr. Schär New Jersey plant:
Company donates Siemens PLC starter package to Camden County College
|
|
Elias Lott has been working as an apprentice at the Swedesboro plant of Dr. Schär since November 2020. His week is divided into lessons at Camden County College and hours of work at the Dr. Schär Plant located in Swedesboro.
After six months on the job, Elias (left, pictured with Dr. Roberts of Camden County College), has completed a majority of his assignments which include some machine repair if needed. He has also become proficient in using most of the tools at the shop, and while not a master level machinist, Elias is still able to accomplish most tasks. Additionally, Elias is familiarizing himself with the vast inventory at the Dr. Schär Swedesboro plant.
Schär USA (www.schar.com) is a subsidiary of Dr. Schär (www.drschar.com), the market leader in Europe that offers the widest array of gluten free products. A trusted household name, Schär is backed by over 30 years in the marketplace and a world-class team of food technologists, dietitians, and scientists. The company provides the Celiac and gluten sensitive communities a flavorful selection of quality, gluten free and trusted products so that they may lead a carefree, pleasurable life. With a commitment to delivering worry-free dining experiences for the Celiac and gluten sensitive communities, the company will expand its manufacturing facility dedicated to producing gluten free breads in New Jersey.
Donation to Camden College
Most of the machinery used at Dr. Schar is custom manufactured to fit Dr. Schar's specific needs. Standard machinery would not be able to process our high complex gluten-free dough.
Dr. Schar primarily uses Siemens PLC’s for their equipment that matches the PLC’s used in all European Dr. Schar facilities. Finding Siemens programmers in the US is almost as rare as finding a unicorn.
We are honored to donate this Siemens PLC starter package to the local college, so that young, engaged students get the chance to become trained Siemens programmers.
