Parish Newsletter May 2024

Message From Father Angi

Springtime always has a lot of changes. We see the budding on trees, the weather is warmer and people get outdoors more for picnics, playing golf and taking walks. In our St. Gregory the Great Family of Parishes, changes are happening. Last year, Fr. Thomas Ebong approached the Archbishop and asked for a one year extension on his assignment to June 30, 2024. The Archbishop granted the one year extension. On June 30, 2024 Fr. Thomas will complete his assignment in our Family of Parishes. He has asked if he could maintain residence here until September before he moves into the next phase of his priesthood and I have granted that request. When Beacons of Light began, our Family of Parishes was only allotted three priests and in that fact, Fr. Thomas will not be replaced here. Beginning July 1, 2024, our Family of Parishes will be staffed by three priests. I am appreciative of the hard work that has taken place over the last two years that makes us ready for this transition. The Mass schedule changes, the St. Gregory the Great Pastoral Council and the joint leadership staff have us ready to embrace the change in number of priests given to us. I thank Fr. Thomas for his service to our Family of Parishes over the past two years and his year of service prior to that at Immaculate Heart of Mary. Blessings and thanks to Fr. Thomas.

This weekend, we celebrate three First Communions in our Family of Parishes: Guardian Angels on Saturday morning at 10:30 and Immaculate Heart of Mary on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 and Sunday at 11:30. Next weekend, we will celebrate one First Communion at Immaculate Heart at the 5:00 Mass and the following weekend on May 17 at 3:00 pm. Congratulations to all our First Communicants.

Sincerely,

Fr. Steve

Capital Campaign Matching Challenge

In January, we kicked off a capital campaign to make much-needed updates and improvements to the church and campus.

An anonymous donor will match every pledge received from now until the end of June, dollar for dollar, up to $250,000.

Every dollar counts and now, your dollar goes twice as far. We hope you will prayerfully consider donating to our Capital Campaign and Honoring Our Past and Investing in Our Future.

Your commitment will help ensure that today’s Angels and future Angels will continue to be impacted by Guardian Angels’ excellent formation and education rooted in the Catholic tradition.

Head Servers

Best wishes to our Head Servers for this school year—Henry Froehlich, Moira Kapp, Sophia Luttmer, and Hugh McElroy. They have each contributed so much to our school and parish liturgies, funerals, and other special events. May God bless them in their ministry as they continue to high school!

First Holy Communion

Congratulations to the 2nd graders of our parish who are making their First Holy Communion today! May they feel God’s love as they come to the table of the Lord.

St. Gregory the Great Hiring Announcement

We have hired a Director of Health Ministries for the St. Gregory the Great Family of Parishes. Her name is Kendall Keiser. She is a registered nurse grounded in faith with a passion for supporting people’s spiritual and physical health and wellness. She is coming to us from Hospice of Southwest Ohio where she provided care for individuals with terminal illness and provided emotional and spiritual support alongside the pastoral care team. Kendall will collaborate with the leadership staff to carry out the Pathways Team recommendations put forth in the Beacons of Light guidelines. She will provide Pastoral Care, serve as staff liaison to the St. Gregory the Great Family of Parishes Health Commission, provide health education, assist in referrals, and oversee bereavement ministry. Kendall began her ministry with us on April 15th. We welcome Kendall to our family of parishes.

Cookie Ministry

Thank you for your donations to the Cookie Ministry this year. The Peanut Butter group really appreciates your support. Your donations are much needed over the summer, as they minister to the needy at St. Francis Seraph Soup Kitchen all year. They put together a lunch sack on Tuesday mornings, so please drop off your donations on Mondays. Your donation of cookies, brownies, rice krispie treats, etc., adds a sweet treat to the lunches our peanut butter group makes for the needy of the St. Francis Seraph Soup Kitchen. Treats can be homemade or store-bought but should be individually packaged (2 cookies per bag). They also need juice boxes or pouches and prepackaged snacks like chips, pretzels, cheez-its, etc.

If you would like to help pack the lunches or drive them down to St. Francis Seraph, contact Kathy Hosking at 513-232-0958. Thank you for your help!

  2. Festival tags are set up in front of the kitchen in the gathering space if you visit the church. Take a tag and return it with your donation. Don't forget to include your name so we know who to thank! Gift cards are needed for entertainment, restaurants, and shopping.
  3. Donate lottery tickets in any amount.
  4. Do you have season tickets to local sports events? Can you spare a couple of tickets? We would love to offer tickets to the Reds, Bengals, FC Cincinnati, UC, XU, Ohio State, Notre Dame, UD, etc.
  5. Do you have an experience you can offer? Maybe a tour of your small business or you have a contact with someone at a restaurant, brewery, or factory?
