As I've discussed in previous emails, it's critical for students aiming for schools including the Ivies, Stanford and MIT to build a "spike" in an area of interest.


This helps set them apart from the many thousands of applicants with outstanding academic records applying to highly selective schools.


The summer is a great time for students to explore their spike -- and build their resume -- in interesting and fun ways that they might not have time for during the school year.

Take a workshop related to the ancient world through the Lukeion Project (fee-based):


Lukeion offers a number of fun workshops – each a series of four 1-hour lectures -- related to the ancient world, including topics such as Ancient Mega Disasters, Marvels of Roman Engineering, Knight Life, and Bizarre Ancient Alphabets. Recordings of the workshops are available through August.
