שיר המעלות ממעמקים קראתיך ה׳

As a school community, our bond with Israel - the country and our brethren there - is special, unbreakable and existential. We feel everything that happens in Israel in our very being, never more so than in the last couple of days.

The last two days of chag have been incomprehensibly difficult. We are sickened at the horrific acts of terror that get worse with every news report.

Along with the entire Jewish world, our hearts are broken at the devastating loss of more than 700 Israeli lives. We feel incredible pain and sadness for their families and loved ones.

We pray for the safe return of the more than 100 captives in Gaza and send love to all of their families in what is the most frightening of circumstances.

We pray for the safety of the brave soldiers of the IDF and for their complete success as they respond to the unprecedented act of terror committed by Hamas.

Our thoughts go out to all of the Farber alumni who are serving in the IDF or who have been called up recently to defend the country and to all of their families, as well as to our Bnot Sherut, the Israeli shlichim and all of our Israeli families.

We just finished the holiday of Sukkot that commemorates Hashem’s protection of the people of Israel during their sojourn in the desert. We ask Hashem to continue to protect us, our families in Israel, the soldiers of the IDF and all innocent people and to bring the peace promised by the berachah from last night’s Maariv: הפורש סוכת שלום עלינו ועל כל ישראל ועל ירושלים

May we hear better news in the coming days.
