The My Safe Florida Home Program - What Homeowners Need to Know

As hurricane season approaches, Floridians should be aware of the My Safe Florida Home Program as it gives certain homeowners access to free wind mitigation inspections and even monetary grants for necessary wind mitigation home repairs.

The My Safe Florida Home Program was re-enacted during the most recent special session of the Florida legislature. It consists of two primary components: wind mitigation home inspections and wind mitigation grant awards for home construction.

Qualifying homeowners can receive free wind mitigation inspections and up to $10,000 in grants for certain improvements to roofs, structures, exterior doors, garage doors, and windows.

Currently, the program is not taking additional applications, but on July 1, 2024, the program will re-open its portal for new applications. Applications will be accepted and prioritized in 15-day increments as follows:

  • Low-income homeowners age 60+ - July 1st through July 15th
  • Low-income homeowners of any age - July 16th through July 30th
  • Moderate-income homeowners age 60+ - July 31st through August 14th
  • Moderate-income homeowners of any age - August 15th through August 29th
  • All other eligible Florida homeowners - August 31st

Once all funds are awarded, the portal will close and will not accept additional applications until additional funding is provided. If you think you qualify, it is important to submit your application right away.

For eligible homeowners, you can apply for a matching grant where for every $1 you provide, the state will provide $2 toward the actual cost of an authorized mitigation project (or 2/3 of the project cost up to $10,000).

As another part of this program, there will be no sales tax on retail purchases of impact-resistant doors, garage doors, and windows from July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2024.

Stay safe out there and we are always here for you.

Sarah and Chuck

Many of you may remember, in 2021, we had the pleasure of meeting a lovely student with plans of attending college following high school graduation. She excelled in school academics, worked full time, was involved in many extracurricular activities, and unfortunately, lost her father unexpectedly. She had plans to continue her education, however, it became more challenging, financially, due to this very unfortunate life event. Since our firm litigates cases involving personal injury and Social Security disability and sees firsthand how a devastating event can affect the family members who are called upon for support of their injured loved ones, we decided to start the Hope Scholarship.

Since 2021, The Law Office of Philips and Raaymakers has awarded $500 scholarships to students from various local high schools who have faced or are facing adversity or an obstacle in their lives and have overcome or are overcoming that obstacle or adversity. This year, our law office will again offer one $500 scholarship each to 4 students who also have found themselves facing some type of adversity or obstacle in their life.

COMMUNITY CHARITY SPOTLIGHT

The Angelus was founded in 1979 in St. Petersburg, Florida. Within a few short months, The Angelus became “home” for eight children, ranging in age from 2 to 12 years. The home was supported by State Funding, but the founders continued to work at night to supplement the income.

The Angelus then became a non-profit organization so they could begin to accept charitable gifts. The community responded with financial as well as volunteer help. The Angelus group home facilities are located in Hudson, Florida on 17 beautiful, wooded acres. Not an institution, The Angelus is a group of homes that are all located on the same rural, nature rich grounds, designed to allow individuals with physical challenges the opportunity to safely visit their neighbors and friends.

For more information or to support The Angelus, please visit their website. The Law Office of Philips & Raaymakers proudly supports this organization.

What Our Clients Are Saying...

Fantastic work, extremely happy with results from Sarah. I wouldn’t have gone with another lawyer. Will be returning if I ever need a lawyer again. I also met Chuck Phillips, very respectful nice man.
